This class has reading and comprehension assignments every class & 4 projects throughout the semester (2 group). Quizzes every other week based on grammar in the readings and the vocabulary chosen by the students. These are easy to pass with some simple flashcards. Easy class and Geyer Senaei is very kind. Participate and do the readings for an A.Rate My Professors ↗

5th semester Japanese's curriculum is laughable. YOUR JAPANESE WON'T IMPROVE! You learn about a lot of useless topics and Professor Geyer admits to intentionally trying to trick students on exams rather than testing their knowledge. She's kind, but my Japanese did not improve a lick during the course. The dept. does not know how to teach Japanese.Rate My Professors ↗
Was a bit of work but not bad. I did not like the project and found it boring but in general, lectures were good. The class was also amazing since the ALC department really want students to get high grades. As long as you put in effort you will succeed.Rate My Professors ↗
Geyer-Sensei is super fun and engaging. She makes every moment of lecture count and encourages students to participate and interact with different classmates every day. Be prepared to work at a fast pace and don't let yourself fall too far behind in terms of Kanji and vocabulary.Rate My Professors ↗
Japanese is the hardest class you will take at Madison. Geyer sensei seems quite nice, but she graded us the hardest of my three years so far. Attendance and homework are mandatory and longer than previous semesters. Random partners each meeting means you practice more outside your friend group, she expects greatness from everyone daily.Rate My Professors ↗
Apparently already speaking Japanese is a prerequisite for this class. Pretty unfair to people that aren't already proficient in the language or who don't avidly watch Japanese television or film. Before taking this class make sure you know all the kanji you have already learned by heart, and then try to add 100 more.Rate My Professors ↗
