What you’ll be able to do

  • Function in Japanese in familiar social situations (e.g., introducing oneself, explaining problems and asking for advice or assistance, or thanking others, etc.).

  • Connect sentences to provide information on some familiar topics (e.g. past experiences and future plans, pastime activities, problems encountered, etc.) in both written and spoken formats.

  • Summarize the main idea in texts and talk that contain mostly familiar vocabulary.

  • Recognize various styles such as spoken vs. written styles, formal vs. casual styles, etc.

  • Discuss similarities and differences between the target language and culture and their own and their influence upon each other.
