What you’ll be able to do

  • Function in Japanese in some familiar social situations (e.g., making requests, saying thank you, giving and receiving advice, changing reservations and making orders at restaurants, complain, making excuse, etc.) appropriately.

  • Connect sentences to provide information on some familiar topics (e.g., introducing people, pros and cons of studying abroad, favorite food, place, and restaurants, familiar social issues, etc.) in both written and spoken formats.

  • Summarize the main idea and some details in texts and talk that contain mostly familiar vocabulary.

  • Analyze various styles such as spoken vs. written styles, formal vs. casual styles, etc.

  • Examine some cultural similarities and differences between the target and their own, as well as the diversity within each culture.
