I concur with many of the comments presented here about Prof Casid. Wonderful human being and subject matter expert, but not a competent educator. I enjoyed the exposure to visual culture, but Jill is simply out of touch with reality about student needs to an concerning degree. Dr. Casid is obviously very knowledgeable in her field of study and teachings. I found that I enjoyed their class, but the lectures were a little hard to follow occasionally because of the format (long paragraphs, no bullet points). Jill Casid uses the word genocide incorrectly and in the wrong context. Additionally, I was shocked she tied current events into an art HISTORY course. She also threatened students with a grade reduction if they disagreed with her.Rate My Professors ↗
I don't recommend taking this class. The readings are super long and unnecessary, and the slides don't help clarify anything. The projects all have confusing prompts that don't make sense. Attendance is mandatory. I took this class for the ethnic studies requirement, but there are definitely many more interesting courses with better professors.Rate My Professors ↗
Dr. Casid is a decent professor who cares a lot about her students. She does have lecture participation points that make lectures mandatory but they aren't too bad, she just reads off her powerpoint slides. The projects were very doable and didn't take a lot of effort. I would recommend this class for the ethnic studies gen ed credit.Rate My Professors ↗
