Like most professors, he assigns reading to be done before class, but unlike most professors you must do the reading. He doesn't teach much, will go through example problems and sometimes doesn't finish them, but it is assumed that you did the reading. Exams are tough, but he is generous with partial credit.

Different teaching style than most teachers. It is ESSENTIAL that you do the readings. Little is actually taught in class but if you read and then go to class then class is helpful. Automatic 100 on homework but doing it actually helps. To sum it up you must put a lot of time into teaching yourself the material.

Worst professor I have had so far. Always goes off topic and doesnt teach the material just starts random problems and doesnt even finish them. Homework and exams don't correlate at all

Prof. Martin is an entertaining lecturer and cares a lot about the students actually understanding thermo. His lectures do tend to go on strange tangents from time to time, and he never really finishes problems completely. Tests are very hard but he's extremely generous with partial credit. Tough class over all, but Martin is a decent prof.

Tries to actively encourage student learning; however, he definitely has some personality issues and can be prone to polar mood swings, as mention in another post. However, the homework doesn't require too much time, and the tests are reasonable. He even let us resubmit our graded tests for some extra credit points.

Good all around teacher. I felt he administered the class very well. Lectures need a bit of rounding off, but you can tell he tries hard and cares about our learning. Tests are about average difficulty, but totally manageable as long as you do the homework he assigns, which isn't too hard at all. (Typically 2-3 problems each class period)
