Fred is lovely, truly a gem in the art department. Gives wonderful, thought-provoking crits & is always able to offer his opinion when asked. He's funny, caring, & an all-around great guy. Take him if you can! You won't regret it. Ask him about his wife's famous cookies she used to make for final crit, you might get lucky & be able to try them.

Fred is without a doubt the most brilliant professor in the UW art department. Not only does he give insightful, useful feedback, but he does so while taking into account the specific needs and perspective of the student. A lot of art professors come with hidden agendas and egos, but Fred is humble, friendly, and genuinely cares about his students

Professor Shares real life experience in the art world which is HELPFULl if you're not sure what to do after college. He is really a GREAT professor because he provides great feedback during critiques and is overall a very FUNNY guy. Ask him to show you one of his books with artists that may interest you, he showed me one and it was really great!

Fred is the best professor I have had at UW-Madison. When I went to class I felt like I had front row seats to a comedy show. He has the most amazing and hilarious stories. He provides a very relaxing and welcoming environment for his students. During critiques, he does all of the talking, which i find great!

Fred is a friendly professor with a great eye for good work. He does not give much feedback unless the student keeps asking him for it.
