About this rating

Raw average: 2.91/5 from 32 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Had a couple of larger projects, especially near the end of the semester. Overall the class was very easy and you can tell she enjoys teaching. I really couldn't care about history, I really just took it for credit, but was not the worst.

Dr. Suarez makes this class extremely meaningful. Small lecture size feels more like a discussion, so there is a lot of collaboration. The course is heavy on reading outside of class, but in-class work is minimal. There are no exams, but there are 2-3 essay assignments over the course of the semester. Overall, I would highly recommend the course.

Quality 5/5Difficulty 1/5
227 is a small lecture group, so Professor Suarez was able to build a connection with each of her students. She's very knowledgeable about the subject material and was happy to answer any questions. The class has small in-class activities that are essentially participation, and some essay/written projects.

Quality 3/5Difficulty 1/5
Lectures were important, but the slides were rather empty, so make sure to listen closely to key points. A lot of "pop quizzes", which she'll most likely warn you about beforehand, are based off readings each week. Prof. Suarez is Indigenous herself so she was able to give a really important perspective on many topics in class.

Quality 2/5Difficulty 2/5
Lectures are very boring and content-heavy, and her slides don't help much for copying notes or learning outside of class. There is a lot of reading outside of class that is also very boring. All quizzes and tests were online and open notes, which made the class really easy. If you can suffer through lecture and talk in section, it's an easy A.

Information was given mostly by her talking and the slides were bare-boned, so be ready to take notes. Pop quizzes were given based on reading or lecture content, but weren't too hard. Your grade depends on 2 assignments, 2 exams, and discussion participation, so make sure you talk a lot. Overall your grade basically depends on how harsh your TA is
