Dr. Valles is an inspiration in the school of education. His stance on neo-liberalism and understanding of the way that public schools actually operate in America is such a fresh breath of air compared to other faculty in the department.

ED POL 205 was really interesting and did not have very many assignments to do outside of class. Edgar loves teaching and helping future teachers and it is very clear from how he organizes this course. He genuinely wants to help students and if you put in your best effort he will reach out and help you succeed in any way he can. Highly recommend!

Lectures were interesting but felt unnecessary at times. Content in lectures and readings felt optional; most work for this course will be graded in discussions or essays you do outside of class. He's a great guy and very knowledgeable, though, and makes the class discuss amongst each other quite a bit, which I prefer over a 50-minute lecture.

Great professor, was very knowledgeable and gave lectures that actually added a lot on top of the readings. He used a lot of music videos and clips during lecture which was fun.

If you are looking for a class where you will be seen and valued as a student, take his class. As a professor, he cares about student learning and well-being and wants everyone to do well. His lectures are engaging and insightful, and the readings actually aid class learning. There is no busy work, and all assignments have a clear purpose.

Edgar is an amazing professor! I took this class to fulfill my ethnic credit, but the topics were very interesting to learn about. We do have 2-4 readings per week and a response, but overall, it isn't a lot of work and is easily doable. His lectures are more talk than note-taking, but also engage with current events, videos, and documentaries.
