Marty was great and I loved this class. Entire class grade is made from 2 exams and a paper, so study for the exams! Need to go to lectures as lectures are not recorded and exams are solely comprised of lecture content. Lectures are very interesting and Marty brings in super cool guest lecturers too.

Lectures can be long but Marty is super experienced and has lots of interesting stuff to share.

I took both Pophealth 502 and Pophealth 471 with Dr. Kanarek, 90% of lectures are overlap between the two classes. Lectures are recorded and attendance is not mandatory, I have never attended lecture. Hard to reach outside of class but very understanding. Easy A, tests super straightforward and paper guidelines clear.

Really easy class, you are just graded on 2 midterms and a final paper. I found that the tests are worded pretty poorly, but are overall easy. He did expect us to know the names of all the guest lecturers for the tests. As long as you followed the rubric you got a 100 on the final paper.

Expect very little work outside of class. Professor Kanarek wants you to learn and become more interested in environmental health, not slam you with busy work. He has great guest lecturers and sometimes gives lectures, too. You probably won't interact with him a ton due to all of the guest lectures, but he is funny and sarcastic.

I'm very glad I took this class. If you go to the lectures and review your notes you should get an A. He is a very nice guy and is very passionate about teaching. He is obviously very respected in his field and all of the guest lecturers are great too.

Great guy & pretty straightforward class. Highly recommend; interesting material and not too much work

Pretty straightforward class and Dr. Kanarek is very knowledgeable about the subject.

Marty's been doing this for a while and knows his stuff! Exams were okay and he'd tell us everything we needed to know for them. Some lectures were slightly repetitive at times but were interesting nonetheless. 4 MC exams and a paper at the end of the term. Lectures were asynchronous. Uses HonorLock.

Thought the content of the course was interesting, but some of the guest lecturers did not give very interesting lectures and were hard to follow at times. Exams are fair and pretty easy though. One paper at the end and graded nicely. Really nice curve at end of the course. Not really necessary to come to lectures. Textbook also not necessary.

Pretty straightforward guy, found his lectures interesting. Most lectures are guest lectures, and the exams are fairly easy

Lectures were very boring and repetitive and mostly guest lecturers. Grade was 40% each for two exams and 20% for a paper. Exams were straightforward.

Very easy class, just show up and pay attention to lectures. Most of them are guest lectures. Two exams (40% each) and one paper (20%). Exams are ridiculously easy and if you study a little bit the night before you should have no problem getting an A. He also has a huge curve at the end of the course.

The class is meant to be informative, and he wants everyone to get an A. As a result, he makes exams really easy. there's two of them plus a research essay. Basically, go to lecture, take notes on the big ideas, and you'll do well. There are many guest lecturers, and lectures get long and boring, but its meant to be an easy A.

Marty is a great professor that makes the information as understandable and easy as possible. Lectures can be long, but overall, the lecture material is fairly interesting. It's easy to receive an A in the class as long as you show up, pay some attention, and take a few notes on the major points covered in class.

Prof Kanarek only taught 7 lectures throughout the whole semester. All the rest were guest lectures who ranged from moderately interesting to boring. The best part of the semester was when Prof Jonathan Patz lectured on climate change. Test questions were based on what is said in lecture so you have to go to pass with at least a B.

All you have to do in this class is show up to the admittedly long and sometimes boring lectures and take good notes and you'll get an A. All I ever did to study was read over my notes once or twice beforehand and I got an A on both exams. I never read any of the optional readings. Paper wasn't very difficult either. Overall, should be an easy A.

Although class is long, he is a great professor that is very knowledgable. I would recommend taking any of his classes. His exams are very fair and only draw from lecture material.

He starts off the semester by saying "just come to class, don't take notes, and you'll get an A." However, there is absolutely no guidelines for your course paper so you'll have no idea what they take points off for. Most of the class is guest speakers, so they throw millions of slides at you. Tests are random questions and tend to be confusing.

Single handedly the worst class offered here in Madison. Unclear material, unclear exams, unclear everything. (Decently easy though: you must be trying really hard if you get below a B). Terrible class. (Marty is really cool thoughl in office hours)

Worst professor ever! Always had guest lectures. Power lectures were extremely boring and he promised the exams would be very easy and they weren't that easy. Wouldn't up grades either.

This is one of my favorite classes I've taken. Marty is fantastic and always enjoyable to talk and listen to. He finds extremely qualified and interesting guest lecturers. It is very easy to obtain an A and you'll enjoy your time in the class!

Marty usually has guests do his lectures, but when he does lecture, it's extremely boring. He's very dry and does not get into his lecture slides. There are no class readings and everything is based on lecture. He said the test would be easy but it wasn't as easy as he promised.

If you go to class and pay any attention at all you should be able to get an A. If you turn in a final paper you will get an A on it. He didn't teach much but when he did he was pretty sarcastic and funny. The bottom A for the curve was an 87 when I took the class.

Very dry professor and class. He only lectures a few times, where he basically just reads off the slides. Plus it is at the hospital, so you have to take the bus, which is very inconvenient.

Super easy class. Lectures are slightly depressing and a little dry, but not intolerable. Exams are not tricky. Marty is pretty much just happy that you even want to take the class. Defintely recommend.

Exams are on lectures, most of which are guest lectures. Fairly easy class. Gives a lot of interesting information on the topic of environmental health.

Such an awesome guy! I expected this class to be boring, but it was great. Don't bother buying the book and just look the answers to the quizzes up online. You don't even have to go to class, just listen to the lectures online.

Great Professor-very laid back. Course material very interesting in the beginning, but it seems a couple lectures were just thrown in to take up space. Lectures notes and actual lectures posted online, so very easy to skip! Tests somewhat easy, quizzes are straight from the book and online! Interesting, easy class!

He is a clear teacher and this course is a great idea. The only qualm I have is that Marty should write the test questions, he knows what he's doing. The other lecturers arn't teachers, arn't trained to write questions, and they ask bad ones.

Prof. Kanarek is such a nice guy. He isn't the main teacher; the whole semester is taught by guest lecturers and he runs class about six times. Tough material, but the tests are graded on an easy curve.
