The problem is that Mark does not understand physics deeply, and this shows when he teaches intermediate and upper level classes. Often got his concepts wrong and cannot answer questions.
This guy is Machiavellian to the extreme. His lifelong goal is to scheme others for his personal gains. He'd make your life miserable. Terrible professor.
It pains me very much to give Mark this rating because I know he'd be a great professor in person. He cares deeply about his students' understanding. However, in this online format, his lectures solely consisted of him reading off lecture slides, which makes it very hard to learn the material. I would 100% take him again in person though.
He covers a ton of material in lectures, but also makes sure that students understand it. Very very very smart, I highly recommend.
Eriksson is amazing, I've heard he's not as good for 322, but for 415 he is incredible. His lectures are very engaging and his exams are easy enough if you do the homework. Best physics professor I've had here.
Great prof. Very clear lectures.
In lectures he seems nice. I heard he was a really good professor but I've had other physics professors that were far better in terms of material and talking with students. He is very different one on one. He was condescending and acted completely different than when he is in lecture. He is actually the only physics professor I don't like.
Took this spring 2015. Not very helpful outside of class. Office hours were at 8 AM. :P Textbook was very bad, but he apparently loved it. But, class was good and allowed students to vote on topics to cover at end of the semester (weren't on final exam). Limited notes on exams and some problems are directly from homework, so I copied them on notes.
Mark Eriksson is the best lecturer I have had in any of my classes at UW. He is engaging and entertaining, and makes you feel excited about the material. He knows his s!%# so well that his lectures are very insightful and I left feeling like I honestly knew the material. If you do the homework, the exams are a breeze. 1010 would take again.
Best physics professor at UW hands down. Majors take his class simply because he is teaching it. He truly understands the material and wants his students to as well. Would recommend him for any class he teaches.
I had this guy as a substitute lecturer for two days when our regular professor went to a conference. He's so much more engaging and exciting than the usual guy-- I wish we had him as our professor instead!! If you can take a class with this guy as your professor, do it-- his lectures are worth going to any day.
This is my first semester in college and I have never seen any teacher or professor teaching so interesting like him. I can do physics, but he made me love physics! Definately take his class if you are considering taking physics classes.
Amazing professor. You WILL learn in his class and you'll actually want to attend, even if it's before 10 a.m. Very engaging.
Such a sweetie and totally enthusiastic. Honestly if I had to sum up the class in one word it would be "cute". Take the class. It's a good time.
Not only is Mark very intelligent, he is also very personable. He is a very helpful, excellent teacher.
Your typical quirky science nerd without the arrogance. Very good in both lecture and discussion. Yes, the course was challenging but if you enjoy physics you'll get a lot out of it.
