The classes were quite interesting
Professor West is the BEST professor I've ever had at UW-Madison. He is very knowledgeable and caring. His Econ 102 helped me develop a strong interest in macroeconomics. He made the materials interesting despite of those long definitions. Don't miss the chance to take his class and get to know him, I would say.
Easy tests. Confusing lectures. Very smart professor. Incorporates current events very well.
Lectures were long and boring, I only showed up for mandatory clicker points. The material isn't hard though, read the book and you'll be fine. TA sections are pretty much optional, we didn't cover much. Homework was assigned every week and a half, but it only took me 30 minutes each. Sign up for BLC and you'll ace the class. Posts lecture slides
Very sympathetic and understanding towards students personal matters.
Kenneth West was one of the worst professors I've had at UW so far. By far one of the most dry and boring lecturers ever. Test are hard while lectures are neither interesting nor helpful. Only reason I showed up was for the iClicker questions. Avoid this professor at all costs.
The class is straightforward and interesting. From day one you, you have a clear idea of what to expect from the class. Grading is fair, exams can even tend toward easy. The lectures are not..."colorful", but West adds a bit of humor to keep it interesting. Definitely take if you enjoyed 101.
Really boring.
Very Helpful. 'nuff said.
Most boring professor ever
Ken is a prof that is teaching basic level econ; the subject matter isn't exhilarating so his lectures get long. He has a monotone voice but is relatively funny with his dorky sense of humor. Neither good nor bad as a prof, but overall an easy class.
His lectures are long and boring. He gets confused by his own slides and goes through them so fast that nobody has time to copy anything. He uses the clicker so you have to go to lecture if you want that 5% of the grade, you also must get the questions right. His tests are hard. Take it with a different professor and safe yourself a lot of stress.
Stay away
West is a good guy and seems very knowledgable. However, expect 40-60 hwk problems weekly, dry lectures with hard clicker Qs, and no insight on test material. The last two tests were very hard and very poorly written. Lectures and practice tests don't help. Pray for a good TA. Lost some faith studying and learning. Aced 101 but not this.
Ken seems to be overwhelmed by his responsibilities. He is a great guy, but his lectures really only consist of him reading definitions copied and pasted from the book with some clicker questions tossed in. Very, very boring lecturer that just skips around on slides, and doesn't provide students with enough time to write anything.
A very boring professor for a very boring class. None of the lectures helped, and the clicker questions were confusing. He is barely audible even with a microphone. If possible, avoid taking his class.
He is a very nice guy and seems to be passionate about economics. However, he is a terrible lecturer and cannot seem to engage the students because he just reads off the slides and gives no examples. Clicker questions are the only reason students show up. His voice is very monotone and it is impossible to want to follow along.
Don't get me wrong, Ken is a nice guy. However, he is a terrible professor. In lecture, he basically copies and pastes terms and definitions from the book that are really long and then briefly reads off the slides. Lectures are pointless and don't help at all. He never does examples of problems representative of the tests. Has clicker questions too
