About this rating

Raw average: 4.80/5 from 5 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

very clear and interesting lectures! Tests are open note and questions are derived solely from lectures, but still really require you to understand the concepts, not just memorize. Lectures aren't drawn out too long, and there's no homework beyond studying for tests.

Quality 4/5Difficulty 3/5
For this class we had online "prelectures" (30-75 minutes of videos) and then active learning during the lecture times that were not mandatory. Overall this class and the professor are interesting but quite detailed. Grade based on 3 open note exams, understanding concepts is important and exam questions are complex.

Good class and I enjoyed her lectures. No real criticism- definitely would have wished to get to know her more. Definitely Recommend her class!

A typical lecture class. All the materials can be found online. GRADE BASED ONLY ON EXAMS. Dr. Gumperz is helpful in answering questions and flexible in office hours. She really wants her students to succeed. The class is pretty straight forward.

Drs. Gumperz, Zumwalde, and Baiu (and Troy) were wonderful instructors, esp after last semester's scandal. Class isn't mandatory, but the medium-difficulty exams are based off the slides and 3 determine your entire grade. No textbook required, discussion optional, and overall loved - this was my favorite and most informative class of the semester.
