About this rating

Raw average: 2.07/5 from 15 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Avoid him if you can, but if not, study hard. I was never confident that what he was teaching us was actually correct because of all the tiny but important mistakes he would make when lecturing. The exams and quizzes weren't crazy difficult but his wording is tricky if you don't read his questions thoroughly.

Definitely not one of the best teachers out there. I thought I'd prepared pretty decently, had been doing superbly on his quizzes, and then got rocked by his exam. I've attended every lecture and many were not the most helpful. Can't really answer beyond the textbook--if you plan on taking him, I'd say study it over his lectures.

I am about to graduate and Professor Epstein is the worst and unorganized teacher I've had. He is a smart guy and his knowledge is extensive but he should not be teaching a Zoo 152 course.

Prof. Epstein is NOT the terrible prof described in the these previous posts. His "scatter" is from ascertaining very complicated particular facts, not general concepts. He follows the book well in comparison to other teachers, so you can look there. Most people are just mad at him because they couldn't ace his exam. Work hard and you'll do fine.

Pretty much useless. The book will be your best friend. Tries to teach and asks if everyone understands during lecture, but even if no one did he couldn't explain anything to save his life. If you know the material from the book you can probably manage an A on the exam. Relying just on lecture, you'll need divine intervention. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

He was very difficult to understand and wrote ambiguous, poorly worded questions that left you confused.
