Dr. Gattis is a difficult professor to appreciate. Although he is very intelligent, it is clear that he lacks practice experience given his inability to demonstrate basic empathy in class. He goes on and on about micro aggressions but simultaneously makes arrogant and unkind micro aggressions to students. He doesnt make the world a better place.Rate My Professors ↗
Do not take this professor if you can avoid it. Dr. Gattis talks very fast and speaks low. He uses terminology from day one that you probably are not used to comprehending in everyday conversation and by the time you process he has already moved on. His lectures and assignments are cloudy. Made me feel very stupid. Even going to his office hours he made me feel extremely dumb and unteachable. Cried on multiple occasions because of this class. Do not get me wrong I love a challenge, but that challenge needs to be back by a professor that loves to teach and encourages his students think outside the box and learn from diff perspectives.Rate My Professors ↗
Pray to god that you are completely current with the language for the course you'll be taking, because you're not going to be able to figure it out unless you've got a tutor or Youtube to hold your hand. One of the most cloudy lecturers I've ever taken who is a masterful PhD researcher, but absolutely terrible teacher. Take someone else if you can.Rate My Professors ↗
Easy class. Just make sure you go to it since attendance is a large portion of the grade. The exams are easy and the writing assignments are short. Both TA's are awesome!! Also, a lot of guest lecturers, but overall they are all interesting.Rate My Professors ↗
This class is easy, but the lectures are long and boring. The material is mostly focused on the history of social work, which I think could be interesting if Gattis tried to make it more interesting. He talks quickly and quietly, and it's difficult to take notes. My TA was wonderful, though. I learned way more in discussion than in lecture.Rate My Professors ↗
