Leann was by no means a bad professor, just a really good one with super high expectations. Each exam was equivalent to writing a 20-page (double-spaced) term paper and the project was a pain in the ass. You'll learn a lot about poverty but the learning experience isn't even close to being worth the effort and selling your soul for a semester.

Professor Tigges is a very respectable professor but the class is not great. The exams are take home but they are 10 pages single spaced and the grading is very difficult. We also had total about 8 papers and 2 take home exams. She gives extensions on literally every single paper though. Overall, nice professor but way too high expectations.

Professor Tigges is by all means a great professor but her expectations of this class are unrealistic and exceed far beyond the students' abilities. I rather would have had multiple choice exams then a 10-page single-spaced take home essay with multiple prompts. 578 is a very good class overall but I would never take this again.

Professor Tigges is a great professor teaching the topic of poverty. It can be hard for some students to understand various problems with poverty going on but she really tries to teach students the reasons for studying this issue. Midterms are take-home but hell since you write 10-20 pages for each of the two midterms. The project is 55% of grade.

Tigges is an okay teacher. Lectures are dry and tedious. Readings are boring too. Prompts for homework are very detailed (almost too exacting). Class is data-driven, so it's a great opportunity to analyze data and apply theory; will be very useful for those hoping to work in think-tanks & social research.
