About this rating

Raw average: 3.97/5 from 33 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Super knowledgeable and it shows in lectures. He explains things in easily understandable ways and connects things to popular shows and etc. Discussions kind of dragged though, and I will say I was the only person in my FIG group that truly enjoyed lectures. Lots of readings but I got away without doing like any of them through the lectures alone.

This was my second time in an honors seminar with Jonathan and I hope it won't be the last. Such a fun and interesting class that I always looked forward to attending. I also really enjoyed digging into some of the more dense scholarship that we looked at. Fair grading, 2 presentations, and choice between 2 shorter or 1 longer paper. Great guy!

At the end of the semester, he encouraged us all the stay smart and nerdy, which really sums up the class. We would just talk about movies the whole time, and the readings were not necessary for the discussion. I wish there were more theory, but that's because I am, in fact, a nerd. Legit so funny and I could tell he liked listening to our ideas.

There are weekly quizzes and online modules you must complete that take a while to get done. There are a lot of readings every week as well. The grading from the TA is kind of odd because even if you follow the rubric back to back they will still try to find ways to give you unnecessary points off.

CA250 is the best class I've taken! His lectures are engaging, content goes into a lot of depth, and you have a lot of autonomy when it comes to the essays. The only downside is you have to rent media occasionally for assignments and the peer reviews aren't very helpful. You can easily an A if you like writing and are passionate about media.

Professor Gray on his own is fine. He's a funny guy who is good at relating his material to real life. HOWEVER if you get a bad TA for this class you are in trouble. The online modules do a better job at teaching than lectures, and the papers cover very difficult prompts. Attendance for discussion is mandatory. Wouldn't recommend for humanities.
