Prof. Viaclovsky is definitely one of the better math instructors in the department. His lectures were very clear and straight forward compared to other courses I have taken in the Math Department.Rate My Professors ↗

Material is easy, but small mistakes on tests/quizzes can severely impact your grade. If you do get an A, it will come with a lot of stress. It's easy to learn from the book, and his lectures only make sense if you read ahead. It's tempting to skip lecture, but we were occasionally tested on material not in the book. Would not recommendRate My Professors ↗
The content of this course is not hard. Easy to get an A but also easy to lose that chance. It is not curved and you have to hand in the HW every week or else you lose points. Also, partial credit is rarely given. I was sure I was going to get an A in this course, since all my exam grades were above 90, but my final grade was way below that.Rate My Professors ↗
Avoid if at all possible. He's a very poor lecturer; very mumbly and lessons dont make sense unless you've already taught yourself some of it. The material itself is actually pretty simple but he has very strict grading criteria with no curve, making it difficult to get a good grade.Rate My Professors ↗
I got average grade for first midterm, 91 for second and 98 for the last midterm and still got a B. I asked the TA and he said AB was given only to people with 89% and my score is 88.58%. How could this happen? I feel like I am actually curved down and not being rewarded for making the effort along the way. Should have given a bad evaluation.Rate My Professors ↗
I had Jeff for both math 234 and math 320, and both semesters I thought he was a fair teacher, especially for 320. He knows the material well and structures the lectures based off the book. The exams are just like the HW, so they are pretty straight forward if you take the time to do the HW. He also omits unnecessary proofs which is a plusRate My Professors ↗
