Grading for this course is not clear and often it appears they look for reasons to take points off. Was told by my TA that you are almost guaranteed a B because A's are very hard. Janet is nice enough, but she grades harshly and often by rubrics designed to trip you up. Plus, she'll be vague until after she's graded.

I heard before I started Biocore that final grades are not based on your work but rather grades that they think you deserve. While she is sweet, she relies solely on TA graded work and allows them to determine final grades. If you care about your GPA do not take Biocore. You don't have control over the final grade you receive.

Janet is the sweetest creature you will ever meet. She is always willing to help and forms genuine bonds with her students. Amazing teacher.

Janet is one of the best professors I could've asked for in a lab course. Inquiry/exploration-based learning is a big focus of the Biocore labs which I think is great because it prepares you for real research labs. I honestly never thought her feedback was vague, but it does require a lot of thinking, reasoning, and work on your part.

Professor Batzli clearly loves to work with students and help teach them to think like scientists. She is very kind and accessible and pretty much runs a large part of the Biocore lab program. However, sometimes it seemed like her explanations were a little convoluted and difficult to understand. But overall, she is a great person and teacher.

Janet is central to the Biocore program. A lot of students really liked her, but honestly, I didn't think she was a fantastic teacher. She wasn't a bad teacher by any means, but she was extremely confusing, and ended up making things harder to understand because she tried to be as vague as possible so "you could find the answer yourself".
