After a week or two, about half the class was attending lecture. Class should've been relatively easy, with a better teacher.Rate My Professors ↗

Bates' method of teaching is to tell how to interpret various stats concepts while having the computer do all the calculations. I do agree with the philosophy but the class is poorly executed. Bates doesn't teach from the book at all, and lectures are exceedingly boring. Attending discussion is essential. Tests are OK if you make note sheetRate My Professors ↗

STAT 224 was so easy. I don't understand how the average last semester was 69% on the final! I beat that by over 20% and got myself an A. I didn't study anything. I don't understand how any engineer (since we're all pretty smart here) can do badly in statistics. I mean all you have to do is think about it. Just like solving engineering problems!Rate My Professors ↗

As mentioned, the lectures are very dry and, quite frankly, pretty boring. Most of the homework is easy, but nothing like what you'll encounter on midterms. Textbook was useful for the first third or so of the semester, then it got way too math-y. Bates is more concerned with interpretation of results rather than the actual calculation.Rate My Professors ↗

Class is computer program based. He concentrates on interpretation of data instead of calculation of data. Class if primarily self-taught. Lectures are useless and a hard to understand TA made attendance a joke. Scantron tests and Learn@UW submitted homework make this a light load as long as you prepare for the tests by making allowed cheat sheetsRate My Professors ↗

the worlds most boring and not useful powerpoint slides. entire class consisted of learning programming rather than actual statistics.... thank you for ruining my gpa and glazing my eyes over everyday... i will never have those moments back..Rate My Professors ↗
