Professor Wallen tried to make lectures entertaining but most of the time they felt very long and did not provide much to learning new topics. When explaining his lecture slides he bounced from one idea to the next which often made it more confusing. His exams were also filled with confusing questions mean't for only some to understand.Rate My Professors ↗
I had Wallen for the first part of the in-person semester, and he is a passionate guy who obviously cares about his students and chemistry. However, during class he spends a lot of time doing tophat questions. The practice questions and exams are not remotely reflective of the midterms, which are difficult(though this may be a universal 104 thing).Rate My Professors ↗

His exams do not make sense and are often a lot more complicated than they have to be. He is a very tough grader. He is not good at explaining directions/assignments.Rate My Professors ↗
During online school, the chemistry department has Dr. Wallen doing the online lecture videos. He does a fantastic job of explaining the topics clearly and in detail and also tries to make the lectures enjoyable (and succeeds) While I didn't have Dr. Wallen as an official professor, I would take a class taught by him after this!Rate My Professors ↗
He's mediocre-okay. He would waste a lot of time in lectures just walking around during easy Top Hat questions, sometimes up to 10 minutes, which was incredibly annoying. He wasn't that good at explaining concepts either, so we would usually be answering questions that we hadn't really learned about yet. The curve at the end was really strange.Rate My Professors ↗
