What you’ll be able to do

  • Examine naive realism and its associated problems.

  • Identify and summarize cultural variation in thinking about what a self is, what responsibilities we have to each other, how we think about groups in society, what is right and wrong, how we should feel, what the world is like, and what the nature of the good life.

  • Explain how historical, ecological, and societal factors help to shape cultural variation.

  • Understand cultural variation that exists within our own society.

  • Hypothesize about factors underlying cultural change and make predictions about the future.
