Create Afro Asian dance fusion through the study of Asian American and African American dance and martial arts genres that serve as tools for dance creation, improvisation, community-building and problem-solving.
Effectively participate in a multicultural society through applying critical andinterpretive skills, to recognize and question cultural assumptions, and to build a consciousness of self and other.
Identify how the past impacts the present through study of ethnic studies history and significant African American and Asian American iconic cultural figures—who have empowered their communities by responding to racism and barriers of social oppression.
Demonstrate self-awareness in diverse cultural contexts in seeking to understand diverse cultural perspectives, while supporting the class community.
Apply course concepts to one’s life outside the classroom, including skills to lead a calmer, more focused and productive life, to continue transformation and healing while meeting challenges of a diverse and complex world.
