I don't think you'll ever find a professor who cares more about their students than Fu. The textbook for the class had no examples and was written by the other professor, Fu gave 4 other textbook reccomendations before the class started. Despite what other reviews say his accent is not hard to understand, however, his handwritting is another story.Rate My Professors ↗
If you took calc in high school and understood it you'll be just fine. Tests were IDENTICAL to reviews. Especially the final, where he even let us bring a study sheet for the exam. I ended with an A and went to lecture maybe 5 times the entire semester. Discussion was mandatory, though. There was no curve. He was better than other profs.Rate My Professors ↗
If you haven't taken calc before, I wouldn't recommend him. There is a prominent language barrier, and his handwriting can be illegible. Despite his efforts, he can't really explain his work and having a TA who can helps a lot. However, his quizzes and exams are fair to the course and there are a lot of grading safety nets.Rate My Professors ↗
Lectures are so useless, it's insane. You just can't understand him and follow his work. He also makes lecture videos that are just a black screen with the audio of the real lecture. You just get to hear him do problems that you can't see.Rate My Professors ↗
Shubin really cares about his students. He will listen to our feedback and is doing his best. However, the only reason I am doing semi-ok in this class is because I did calc in hs. This would be extremely difficult had I not come in with some baseline knowledge. All of the TAs were slightly difficult to work with. Weekly quizzes. 3 exams.Rate My Professors ↗
Best of luck to anyone that dares to take this class. We love Shubin but learning from him is not for everyone, while he can be hard to understand at all times he also doesn't explain his work.
