Dr. Strikwerda was really kind, excellent, and motivating. Her Math 341 lectures were very clear and engaging as she introduced key ideas of linear algebra through systems of equations before moving to abstract vector spaces. I really enjoyed her lectures. Professor Strikwerda taught well. I would suspect that people underrate her because they were personally confused by the course material and dissatisfied when they received back poor test results. There is agency from the students to do well and the teacher to be pedagogically sound, and I think she did the best on her part to teach the material.Rate My Professors ↗
For anyone taking Sarah's classes in the future, I highly recommend going to her office hours AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE since she won't cover a single lecture's worth of material in one class period. She consistently had trouble teaching and her material content didn't match the exams. Good thing UW is discontinuing this math sequence.Rate My Professors ↗
She was the worst professor I have ever had. She often left lecture notes incomplete, giving up halfway through the problem because she was unable to complete it. The exams were lethal, and the difficulty did not match her teaching capabilities, let alone the content covered in class. She was also very defensive to criticism.
