About this rating

Raw average: 3.47/5 from 34 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

CHEM 345
Quality 4/5Difficulty 4/5
Stowe is one of the better options for Orgo 2 alongside Brian. Stowe covers the content in a pretty easy to understand way that preps you well for exams. He does use TopHat which can be useful but often times felt too simple and took time out of the class making other important topics feel rushed. Overall a good professor for a tough class.

I liked the way he explained things and cleared up misconceptions. Sometimes the Top Hat questions felt like a waste of time. Overall he taught the difficult content very well.

Ryan is a great professor! Very engaging and overall a super nice guy. I had him for both Ochem classes which were super hard but he is great at explaining things. Makes class fun with presenting peoples pets before class everyday.

All exam content was covered in lecture. Practice problems were very helpful for exams. No notecards for exams, but there is an index guide for the exam. Just a hard class.

CHEM 345
Quality 4/5Difficulty 4/5
You need to spend some extra time after class on problem sets to get practice on the dense content covered in class in a short amount of time. But Dr. Stowe has no control over that because this is a departmental decision Dr. Stowe himself is very, very nice-he is extremely friendly during his office hours and always encourages you to think deeply

CHEM 343
Quality 2/5Difficulty 5/5
You can really tell that Ryan is an expert in his field and highly knowledgable and passionate about organic chemistry, but unfortunately that doesn't translate well for people who are learning the subject for the first time. A lot of class is spent on tophat questions that didn't feel too productive. Answer keys were almost never fully completed
