Doesn't provide notes, just long articles (15-20+). Exams are curved but study guides have over 100 questions. Written and verbal assignments are easy points to help make up for exams. Written assignments are usually essays (5+ pages). Professor Hitchman does talk a lot during lectures from start to finish.

No posted syllabus which made predicting your grade hard.I did kind of bad on both exams (80's) and good on the oral and written assignments, ended up with an A. Lecture is very boring. Would recommend asking for help from the TA as he was more helpful.I can tell that Matt is super smart, he just goes off on tangents when you ask him any question.

This class is doable as long as you go by the study guide and come to lectures. For exams, study off of the study guide and read only what you need to know. The chapter textbooks that he provides is unnecessary long so again, study what you only need to know. There are 2 writing (essays) and 2 oral assignments & 2 exams (no open notes). Good luck.

Although Professor Hitchman is caring, his lectures lack context and notes, leading to a disorganized course format. Slides with images don't help much either. There's no Canvas; just a website with scattered links for assignments. The workload is light, but the teaching and course layout need improvement.

Dry as heck; exams were often on random subjects mentioned maybe once if at all in lecture. Take it with Desai in fall semester if you want to do well.

Professor Hitchman is a good professor but I'm not sure how I feel about him teaching the course I took with him (AOS171). His lectures are extremely dry, exams are very difficult for a 100 level class and are almost all short answer. If you don't attend class, it is very hard to understand material since no slides or notes are posted online.

Matt's lecturing style does not well introduce students to the subject, especially for an introductory course. His lectures are very detailed and difficult to understand. Unless you are really interested in environmental studies and the very picky, specific details, I would not recommend taking this course.

Matt gives pretty dry lectures but this class is awesome for Com B credit. I'm a business major who wanted the easiest and somewhat interesting Com B. That's this class. Matt brings personal stories to the lectures and gives more than enough time to complete assignments.

This guy is just a chill, smart, nice dude. He likes what he teaches and that made this gen ed interesting. was super clear about what needed to be done. helpful and also really funny if you pick up on his humor. great guy.

Matt is really interested and seems like he loves to teach this class. Grading is straightforward and this class is pretty easy. Attendance drops sharply after the first exam.

He is the most interesting teacher/person because of his crazy adventure stories from personal knowledge and traveling. Great teacher gives all the answers to the test on the study guide. I took it for Comm B extremely easy.

Geophysical fluid dynamics is still confusing as hell to me, but Hitchman gives good detailed reviews before exams. Just bring a tape recorder. I found his blazed & confused demeanor incredibly attractive. He also tells funny stories

Homework sets were pretty tough, but exams were fairly easy as long as you learned what was on the study guide. He actually made graduate level fluid dynamics lectures interesting.

Exams are extremely difficult, however homework was quite easy. Giving a list of formulas on exams would be helpful.

I liked Matt a lot! He's super funny, incredibly kind, and he gives ALL the answers to the exam the class before you take it! It's amazing some people don't well in this class. Plus he's generous grading the papers. If you have to take a Comm B, take AOS 171!

this guy was so hard to understand. I went to almost all of the lectures and consistently got low grades on the tests. the ta is just as useless - if you go in and ask for help, they treat you like you're stupid. would not recommend, would not take again - would have been better off taking ochem for science credits.

He's not very clear at times, but the class is definitely doable if you put in effort to do the assignments, term paper. Doesn't require much thinking, more memorizing. A great class if you hate college science

Very relaxed professor- great com b to take!

Very nice guy! Cares a lot about his students. Interesting subject matter.

If you need com B this is the one to take. You don't have to write as much due to some grandfather law. There not that good at English so the paper are a synch. All answers to exams are given beforehand.

fell asleep to his voice in class. he's really nice, just hard to follow during lecture. studying just from the book then was a little difficult since i couldn't follow him in class.

gives the questions and answers to the exams beforehand so all you have to do is memorize! humor is hard to understand sometimes...well, most of the time. but he's a cool guy.

The class is one of the easiest on campus. Although he can be a bit dry at times, his absent mindedness can be very humorous. Its worth going to lecture though if you are unfamilliar with common weather phenomenon. Great class to pad GPA.

He is really nice, but he is not a good lecturer. There is a lot of information that he spits out and you can't write all his ideas down nor can you understand what he means half the time. Bring a tape recorder...I wish I had.

He can't lecture at all. He needs to develope formal notes becuase he has no idea how to convey ideas to rest of class. Plus side, he gives study guides for tests and if you know that, you know test.

Ultra easy and he's nice, but he is a terrible lecturer. He likes the stuff, but can't teach it. Bring the crossword.
