Prof. Friedland is funny guy, and it's clear he's passionate about the material and very knowledgeable. There's a lot of reading for this class (around 100 or so pages a week), but it's manageable if you're interested in the material. Make sure to show up to lecture because he goes through the main points of the readings.Rate My Professors ↗

Thought this class was pretty good, but there were a ton of dry readings, I often ended up skimming or skipping the weekly readings unless I was required to speak on them. Lectures were interesting, learned a lot about journalism and mass comm. Lots of papers to write and the most important ones were pretty hard to write. Decent course overall.Rate My Professors ↗

Professor Friedland was really nice when he was outside of class and really helpful about papers and course material. However, he didn't teach J201 with the spunk it could have been taught with. The midterms are harder than expected, but all the material you will be tested on is on the slides he posts on the web. Overall, this is an Easy A.Rate My Professors ↗

Lew was and alright professor, but his lectures were pretty boring and he was not approachable at all. He acted like everyone in the class was dumb and didn't understand anything. I stopped paying attention completely by the end. However, I had a wonderful TA who made the papers and speeches absolutely painless, so it was a great Com-B.Rate My Professors ↗

Kind of disappointed in this class. I was super interested in the topic but feel as if I didn't get what I expected/hoped. Concepts were confusing and hard to understand, as well as lecture slides. Lew was monotone so it was hard to pay attention. This class isn't cake but not hard- you still have to put in work and do good on papers & exams.Rate My Professors ↗

Lew was a pretty good lecturer, but he could stand to be a little less monotone and dry with his delivery. One thing that frustrated me was the inconsistency of the course. Half the time, we had guest lecturers - Professor Friedland could have very well lectured on these topics. This made for a somewhat disorganized course but overall Lew is solid.Rate My Professors ↗
