Poor lecturer and the class was mostly self study. His attitude is the issue. His responses to questions are sometimes blatantly rude. He often declines to answer questions entirely. I have had multiple exchanges with him during exams where he was incredibly rude and unreasonable. No peer of mine has said a good thing about him.

He doesn't have a flow while teaching in the class. He just comes and starts doing math. He should listen more to students and most importantly make the class more engaging. He just comes and starts working on the math problems without interacting even once with the students. I believe there is a huge gap between him and his students.

Overall, he covered all the necessary material for the midterms and final, and is a decent lecturer and relatively good at explaining. He doesn't post lecture videos, but does post annotated notes. His lectures are fast-paced and there's a lot of content covered, but he's responsive to questions and going to office hours was helpful.

Avoid this professor at all costs.

I had him for Math 340. Read all the bad reviews because they are all accurate. He explains things in such a complicated way that it makes the concept way harder than it actually is. Since he takes so much time horribly explaining things it takes all of class time. His lecture notes are also so bad. There's not enough space to explain how bad he is

I took him for Math 340. I read his rate my professor before enrolling in his class. I thought there was no way he could be as bad as the reviews say and his class was the only one that fit my schedule. I learned very quickly that all the 1-star, awful reviews are very true. He's actually that bad. Avoid at all costs. Don't take unless you have to.

He's a good guy and doesn't deserve the 2/5. If you don't understand a concept, he's willing to help as long as you ask questions. A lot of the class is self-study, which sucks, but that's just how university is going to be. I took lin alg in highschool and my highschool teacher was actually like Prof. Rodriguez, so it's a common teaching style

Had him for 340: Linear Algebra, He's terrible, his notes are so bad they are like fill in the blanks, and he is not helpful at all. He is not considerate at all.

Poor lecture notes. I took MATH 340 linear algebra with this professor. The lecture notes were awful.this subject is key to a lot of concepts that I will take in the future so I had to study from online courses. Will not recommend taking it from him. He shows no mercy for any circumstances.

Had him for math 340. He is terrible at explaining things. His lecture notes have so many typos and mistakes. It feels like he makes them the night before. The way he speaks is so technical and confusing. Everything feels rushed. I never know WHY we are doing / learning the things he lectures. I end up having to learn everything on my own. Terrible

I was really down on him at first; he had a tendency to tell us that we had no time for questions in lecture. About halfway through the semester, though, he became receptive to them and provided quality answers. Professor Rodriguez is not particularly charismatic, but he does teach you what you need to know.

Lectures are awful; he reads his already textbook copy pasted lecture slides word for word, and confuses himself. He spends 60% of lecture time on class discussion (useless, doesn't happen), or "convincing yourself the answer is right." Course and exams were straightforward at least. Avoid this guy, unless you want to completely teach yourself.

Hands down by far the WORST professor I've ever had. Can't say enough bad things about this man. Doesn't care in the slightest about people in tough circumstances. Exams are pretty easy however and the class as a whole is very straightforward. Just a bad bad professor. Somehow he made math 234 seem MUCH harder than math 222 for me. Lectures are bad

Jose is a subpar professor if I'm going to be honest. Aside from his god-awful lectures, he's doesn't really put any real effort into making the class interesting. He just aimlessly goes through lectures, without really giving useful examples. There needs to be more emphasis on how the material cane be applied which he fails at incredibly.

His lecture are basically the textbook word-for-word and he will often refer us to the textbook instead of answering questions directly. He tries to pack too much content into a lecture so the last 5 minutes are super rushed. Overall lecture quality is not great. I will say the exams usually consist of straight forward (relatively easy) questions.

I was in Jose's MATH 341 this summer. Honestly, if it wasn't for this class, I probably would have not decided to switch my major from Stat to Math. Linear Algebra is the foundation for any upper-level math courses, and Jose's flipped classroom structure forced me to preview/review materials. It was challenging but very rewarding.

He puts the least amount of effort into teaching that I have ever seen. He puts no effort into lectures, which are just copy pastes of the slides on a projector. Not only this but he also reads the slides word for word. If you cannot read in English this is helpful, but considering we have full access to the textbook this is not the most effective.

Lectures are just the textbook presented as a powerpoint.

Lectures are just lectures, but his explanations are helpful. If you ask a question on Piazza, you will get a good answer. He is kind and is willing to make accommodations when you can't make the class, quiz, or exam.

Terrible with explanations on many different topics. Often does not get to finish teaching the lecture due to the inability to properly form an explanation that makes sense. Provides little to no reason as to why you would take the steps shown in the book (the only thing he actually teaches).

He basically copy-pastes from our textbook to a PowerPoint then reads off of it for 50 minutes. Do not recommend taking his class. He prioritizes memorizing formulas over understanding the material.

Teaches word for word from the textbook and is terrible at answering questions.

I had Jose for linear algebra in the summer. Very underrated professor. Class is a lot of work but it was very well structured.

Math 443 is the worst course I have ever taken in UWM. We are required to attend class to just watch the lecture video. The professor doesn't say anything useful and he never replies to emails. We spend much time doing useless homework. The ridiculous participation survey is also useless. The professor never answer question outside office hour.

Worst professor in the math department. Too many HW. He didn't teach anything in class. We have to study on our own and we have to take the ridiculous HW.

Unqualified professor in the math department. His lecture is a complete waste of time, and you have to finish all the stupid "participation survey" "participation HW" that count for the grade. BTW his HW also needs references to the book or what he taught in class(which is nothing). MATH 443 is a joke.

I took calculus ab in high school. After watching professor rodriguez's lectures, I felt like I understood less about calculus than I had before. His lectures are just powerpoints with unnecessarily complicated definitions and descriptions of simple concepts. He spends 15 minutes reading the words straight from the slides.

He basically read out of the book in a power point and never expanded on anything. Do not pick him unless you have taken Calc before!!!

So this was my first semester in university and I had high expectations, I thought that professors would enlighten me and explain matters as hard as they could. However, this was not the matter with Jose, the explanations are vague and shallow. It is very difficult to understand. If you have no background in calc you will find him very challenging

Since it was online all semester he had recorded video lectures that he posted that did absolutely nothing to advance my knowledge in calculus. The videos were like an average of 10 minutes where he read right off of the slides. With no background in calculus you might has a hard time in this class. I had to use youtube a lot to help me.

Professor Rodriguez is not a great professor. Online this class is an incredibly easy A. There are weekly tests but only about 5 questions in 45 minutes. They are very easy and Honorlock was not used. A lot of assignments make up your grade, but nothing is that difficult. If you want an easy A take this course with Rodriguez.

He's a solid professor and knows the content well enough to teach it. I took Calculus BC in high school so that helped overwhelmingly. If you care enough to work for an A and pay attention, you'll do fine. The honorlock is a bit clunky at first but in the end students are over exaggerating and trying to weasel out of proctoring.

This professor had the audacity to institute honorlock mid semester, and being the only one in the department to do so even after the big semester fai, and he has been unreceptive to online school concerns in the past. He also has uninteresting and confusing lectures and the only reason I know what I'm doing is because of past experience and TA's.

My class had so many issues with honorlock at the beginning of the semester so we didnt use it, but now we are switching to it again mid semester without addressing how our concerns were addressed. Most of us couldn't even access our first exam! Videos were also difficult to understand and I had to look up concept videos on youtube to understand.

Had him as a sub today and he is amazing. Wish he was always our teacher. He explains very very well. Our department needs more people like him!

Genuinely wants his students to succeed. He gives opportunities for "bonus points" to help boost assignment, quiz, and/or exam grades by a point or two. Explains material well, and does his best to answer any questions or explain problems more thoroughly when asked. Easy to understand and presents material clearly. Very friendly.

PROS: pretty nice guy, hw workload is not bad, pretty fair exams(closely follows hw+textbook). Website is always updated with info. CONS: not bad but not the best teacher. Expect to self-learn most of the content by yourself. Is a little picky about proof writing. OVERALL: Won't be your favorite class but you won't hate/suffer in the class.

Class is so useless. Answers to HW are online and tests are literally homework problems taken from book. Professor himself is a dud. Cant teach, cant answer questions, is very rude in lecture, and has horrible handwriting. I'd recommend only going to class to turn in homework since he cant teach anyways so no point in even attending.

Professor Rodriguez is a nice guy but he expects you to know a lot of your stuff beforehand. Sometimes when we ask questions, he himself cant answer them which can be frustrating but if you give him some time and then ask him again, hell think about it and give you an answer.

He does not how to teach at all.

Jose is seriously the best, you guys. He cares SO much about being a good teacher, and makes sure to answer any questions as soon as you raise your hand. He also writes all of his notes on the board so its not hard to keep up during lecture. Plus, nearly all of the exam problems are from homework problems. LOVE this guy.
