Nice guy but not a good professor. Lectures are extremely vague and includes only pictures. He's even more confusing in office hours. He expects you to know organic chemistry and biochem like he does. Lots of mechanisms and application. Test average was a 52. No curves, no extra credit. Avoid at all cost.Rate My Professors ↗

Not a bad person 1 on 1, but terrible email correspondence and doesn't allow you to see your test beyond his scheduled periods. Don't take this without taking ochem, and biochem would really help. Extraneous details detract from main focus, so it's on you to maintain it. Lowest class average of the 3 profs so don't fall behind.Rate My Professors ↗

I was worried about escalante from the other reviews before taking the class but was pleasantly surprised. His portion of the class will be MUCH easier if you are in/have taken BIOCHEM (not just chem 343!) His exam questions can be poorly worded but he tries really hard to clarify/answer questions and he is a really nice guy -- not bad if you studyRate My Professors ↗

Yeah, he is hard but you learn a lot. Plus he is a very nice man.Rate My Professors ↗

As he was going through lectures, he always stressed that he would focus on the main ideas of metabolism and structures but, when the exam came around it was details, details, details. Make sure you have taken chem 343 before taking this class with Dr. Escalante. If you do, about half of the material will be much easier. Make sure you don't cram.Rate My Professors ↗
