Professor Alix-Garcia is a fantastic instructor! Her classes are well-structured with clear expectations for the work to be done. But she isn't just about grades. She genuinely cares about student learning. If you make a mistake, she provides constructive feedback that helps you improve. There was an incredible amount of reading for an econ class and not ALL of it is mandatory to do well. Her grading for exams was inconstant in my opinion and she was a tough grader on random assignments for seemingly no reason. Overall, she was very kind but has some room to improve as a professor. Great course! There is quite a bit of group work, so be prepared. Most of the group work can all be done in class though. The Prof has great control of the material. Be warned that she is not an easy grader. Explain yourself and be specific. With that being said, she does award partial credit. Professor Alix-Garcia is extremely passionate about what she does. She is always willing to help her students. However, her lectures are inconsistent. Sometimes, they are very repetitive of the readings or focus on simple concepts, other times they are more involved. Great professor! Passionate about development economics, friendly to students and extremely helpful when you ask her about homework problems. Very easy class, you only have to complete a few assignments and quizzes, no exams. I learned a lot but didn't have to spend tons of time for this class.
