HALINA FILIPOWICZ

Told me the second class, (in front of everyone) that I wouldn't suceed. When I came in for help she told me that she "had nothing to say to me." That being said, if you read the books and repeat her interpretations of them for the exam, you will do fine. I would much rather had opportunity to voice unique opinions, but that was prohibited.

Professor Filipowicz is very old school in her teaching. Although she requires constant class participation, she basically lectures at the class for 75 min. She is a very well educated woman with a lot of knowledge, but in assignments it's very much so "her way or the highway." The tests are pure regurgitation but essays are pretty tough.

She tells you exactly what to take away from each reading, so if you can reproduce her points from class on an exam you will get nothing less than an A+ in this course. She wants you to agree with her interpretation of readings, not make your own. Very nice lady who takes Polish literature seriously. I would recommend this class with Filipowicz.

Awful, avoid at all costs. Power lecture was awful and she rambles. Not clear with material and did not stay on topic.

I would have been cool with the strict requirements if she were a helpful or effective professor. every single one of her lectures was an hour of rambling and 15 minutes of actual useful info. there's 3 "quizzes" worth 36% of your grade, a final paper and 2 midterms. she's not constructive and very condescending. i would avoid this class.

I didn't mind her old school methods or mandatory attendance or even her rambling so much as I minded how she treated me. She made me feel stupid when I asked questions and all but told me I would not succeed in the class. I wish I had researched her more before taking the class; had I done so, I never would've taken it to begin with.
