Was very calm and easy to understand. Was never too tough on grading or homework and tests made sense and long as you looked over the study questions.

Professor Petty is one of the best professors I've had. Exams are tough, but if you study an A is not out of the question. Lectures are crystal clear, and if you're not super clear on a concept, he's more than willing to answer questions.

Lecture is interesting but his tests are unfair. Try to take it with Ackerman if you have the option.

He teaches straight from the book which means you can get away with skipping a class if needed. He is very clear in how he teaches topics. The exams seem like they would be very easy, but somehow are very difficult so a lot of studying is necessary.

Prof Petty is an amazing professor. Smart, gets his points across, teaches straight from the book so it's ok if you miss a day, attractive... funny, too! His exams and grading were very fair.

SUNDOGS! The best teacher for taking Weather/Climate. Heard the other one tried to act too hard.

Great professor. Really knows his material (he wrote his own textbook) and communicates very well with his students. Great attitude as well.

Cute, funny, self-deprecating.

THE MAN. He's in a band called the Sundogs, that's all you need to know. Well, that and the fact that it's the easiest class ever. Just study the online notes.

I wasn't very interested in meteorology before this class. I just heard it was an easy class from my friend. But he made it fun and exciting. Definitely sexy.

Interesting class. You don't have to buy a textbook and he provides the lecture notes. Exams are multiple choice and straight forward. Read the lectures because questions are taken almost directly from the notes.

not organized

I'd take another course of yours anytime.

Online notes serve as the textbook, there isn't one to buy. Tests are taken directly from these notes, if you know them, you'll get A's. Sends emails constantly (slightly annoying), but I'm sure they clear up any misunderstandings about the class. I haven't been to lecture since the first day, so I can't comment on his lecture style. Easy SCI cred

Excellent Teacher. Doesn't make you get a book, provides own notes which are much more concise than a text book. Notes are straight forward and no room ambiguity. Fairly easy course, just make sure to understand the notes and definitely read them!

great professor, great class to take to satisfy credits you need.

Great prof, took the class to satisfy a requirement and actually enjoyed the class

Great Professor, helps students a lot. High standards, but genuinely concerned for student progress.

very easy class, entry-level, to fulfill science requirements, if you ready the book thoroughly and go to lectures for backup - you should be fine! all exams are multiple choice, I got an A. professor was friendly, helpful in answering questions

petty rocks on lead guitar!

i also never attended lecture but pulled a high A in the course. read the material very carefully. some of the questions on his exams are picky.

First time teaching a large class. He explains things very simply and clear. Well worth it.

Lecture is boring, everything is being covered in the book, you're better off going to the exam reviews the last class before the midterms and just reading the book and taking notes. He's a really nice guy, but just can't teach at a freshman level.

did not explain material in depth enough, you are better off reading the book.

I never went to lecture, ever!

The teaching is great!

Responds to questions (via email) VERY quickly.

Lectures were not helpful because he skimmed the chapters, when exams were very detailed, so it was necessary to read instead of attending lectures. If you can memorize an entire chapter, exams are easy, otherwise, I've heard other professors are better.

very good intentions, but please do not waste your time going to these lectures, read the book

Petty's a cool guy. He explains things real well, and makes sure that everyone understands the material to the best of his ability. tests are very straghtforward and come directly from notes/reading, they aren't too hard either.

Excellent professor and truely cares about his students

I would suggest not even going to lecture. He really is not the best at explaining everything and bases everything, word for word, out of the book. Also, his tests are pretty tough.

Easiest class I've taken, went to class twice all year and have a high A

Good professor. Tried his best to make everyone succeed, but didn't quite lecture to the best of his ability. The lectures were extremely boring, but he isn't too hard of a professor.

He seemed pretty reasonable in his grading, the class was really easy but that is probably because it was a 100 level and should be easy

Easy Fun Class. You'll love it.

Lectures actually were pretty clear - he makes it obvious what you do and don't need to know. Exams are EXTREMELY easy, and homework is rare and graded leniently.

Good teacher for the fact that he teaches straight out of the book. You can skip every class and still do very well on the tests. Hand in something for homework even if it's crap, the grading on homework is very very lenient.

he's a rockstar

You should see him play the guitar!

Lectures are confusing and not helpful...he spends a lot of time redrawing (poorly, I might add) diagrams from the textbook. He genuinely wants people to do well, but has no idea how to make that come about.
