About this rating

Raw average: 2.80/5 from 5 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Very interesting professor, but exams were unnecessarily difficult. TA (Rob) was very condescending and unhelpful. Overall, the material was interesting. I would recommend the class. At first it is very challenging, but it will become more manageable as you progress and learn what Doug/TA expects.

This class was a little too hard for what it was worth. The tests were multiple choice and short answer, with the short answer questions being pretty hard. Some of the concepts are abstract and hard to grasp. People were very concerned with getting questions answered during discussion. The presentations in discussion were unnecessary.

I hated this course at first, and still have a few issues with it, but overall there's some enjoyment to be had. Doug on some occasions has great lectures, and other times they're disorganized. The exams are decently challenging if you don't know how to approach them right. The material overall is very interesting though, so i'd recommend it.

He's pretty wordy in his explanations, and he wont clear them up by saying them again, it just makes it more confusing. But I enjoyed the class. Hes a nice guy with some interesting stories, good class though I thought
