About this rating

Raw average: 4.41/5 from 56 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.

Take this class if you hate knowing your grade, do not care about your GPA, and want to lose interest in Criminology. His lectures are recycled, out dated, and boring. He is clearly one of those teachers who had little social success in school and wants to take his anger out on a new generation of kids.

Genuinely a good professor. Took 6 classes this semester to complete a double major. ONLY take this class if you're taking 4 or less classes. Each week demands multiple hours of reading and potentially attending office hours. Don't take the class for the "fun of it" or you'll get your behind kicked by studying like I did.

If you want to be a criminologist in the future, take all of his classes. If not, avoid this name! You still have time to drop out! He will test you on 10+ readings in an extremely detailed way for a mid-term exam. He is dissatisfied with the current GPA inflation, so your GPA gonna be the price for him to save the whole society's academics.

Best professor I've had at UW-Madison. Classes are always super early, but it's clear he's passionate about what he's teaching. Applies everything to real-world examples. He also really cares about his students.

I had crim and serial killers with mike. Both were graded on 3 blue book exams. "Know everything" type of exams that are hard to study for unless you have a great TA or review session. Repeatedly uses the same examples and tries humor. Don't need to show up to class but sometimes grades participation. Passionate but maybe teaching's not for him.

I love Mike as a person, but maybe not my favorite lecturer/exam creator ever. I skipped about half of the lectures and still did great on exams. Make sure you read EVERYTHING. Take notes, put them into chatgpt to refresh your memory closer to the exams, and GO TO DISCUSSION. Overall Mike is super knowledgeable and I learned a lot from him.
