Professor Eraker taught an interesting class; however, the lectures were difficult to follow and take notes on due to tangents and frequent back and forth between slides in class. It's incredibly important to pay attention to detail in the slides, and reference them frequently for studying and assignments.
He is very smart but lectures can be all over the place. I have no interest in the subject so they were boring to me, and I taught myself everything right before tests, but that's not really his fault. Midterm was difficult but he provided lots of practice materials and graded generously. This class could've been torture but he made it manageable.
Bjorn is polarizing. Yes he may be disorganized, unprepared at times. He doesn't update grades on Canvas. However, he is the most passionate prof in finance. He LOVES his subject and that is infectious. Take his course if you actually care to learn about derivatives, not to ace exams. However, his exams are always very easy if you pay attention.
Bjorn is the best professor I have had at UW-Madison. You can tell that he truly cares about all of his students and that he is deeply passionate about the course material. He is very approachable and makes students feel understood as well.
Professor Eraker does not do a very good job at giving lectures since he likes to read off slides and then proceeds to deviate from what he was lecturing to a completely different topic than what he was discussing. Lectures are boring, material is dry, and overall a poorly structured course. Take it with a different professor if you can.
Really good professor. The material is very interesting, and the exams are not very hard.
Intelligent and passionate in derivative and asset pricing. If you are truly interested in derivative and its practice in market, I would recommend you to take this class. Be sure to ask questions in details and go to office hours when you come up with confusions and problems. You will be getting deeper than just going for lectures.
Always recommended to take FIN 330 with Bjorn if you truely want to learn something about trading and derivatives. You will get a paper trading account for practicing the concept in class. The exam is not hard as long as you go to the lecture and think aloud.
Bjorn is super passionate and knowledgeable about derivatives so you get as much out of this class as you put into it. If you are genuinely interested in finance, it is definitely worthwhile to take 330 with Bjorn. You also get a paper trading account with Interactive Brokers to practice lecture concepts with real-time market data which is cool.
Bjorn is the man. He loves derivates (somehow) and really cares about his work. He is a bit unorganized, but he's always willing to help and wants his students to do well. If you take all of the practice exams he gives out, you will pass with flying colors.
He was very unorganized and wasteful of time. It did not feel rewarding to go to lecture and many of the homework assignments felt tacked on and irrelevant.
Bjorn is the most unorganized professor/lecturer I have ever had. He doesnt know how to give a fluent lecture, all his material is old and dry. This is the reason why no one came to class. He then got upset that no one came to class and everyone still did well on his midterm so proceeded to change the syllabus to include participation as a grade
Without a doubt, the best professor I've ever had. Bjorn eradicates the stigma that "large university professors aren't helpful." He truly cares about whether or not you understand the material, not just what grade you get on an exam. You can always ask questions without any judgment. Outstanding, entertaining, and thoughtful professor!
Bjorn is a good guy who is very interested in Derivatives. He teaches the class in a very modern way using live markets and data in his lectures. However, he is extremely unorganized and would add homework assignments and quizzes at the last minute that barely related to lectures or exams. Good guy, poorly run class.
Bjorn is an awesome professor. Hes clearly very intelligent and teaches many current, relevant things rather than purely theory, so the class seems much more applicable than many do. Go to class, he doesnt follow a book. Hes also hilarious and class is entertaining. I recommend him for Finance 330 or any class he would teach!!
Bjorn is by far the best professor I have ever had. The class is at times difficult but it is certainly do-able with a genuine effort to understand the material he provides. Lecture notes are high level but problem sets and other assignments help to clarify. He is not only very evidently intelligent, but also consistently entertaining and helpful.
Bjorn is hilarious and enthusiastic about his work. Very intelligent guy and can relate to students well. 330 is the hardest class in the UW Finance curriculum, so no way around taking this class. Bjorn is a great option. Trading assignments are real world, so it's not just theory and models. Can come across as intimidating but definitely isn't.
