Honestly, Prof Paretskaya is knowledgeable, but this course is 100% terrible. There is a ton of difficult readings that are hard to understand. In the class, she just talks with herself without a useful PowerPoint, so it's easy to distract. There is so-called "participation," and I get nearly 0 even though I try to focus on class and take notes.
I can't honestly say I learned anything of use from attending lectures (which is a requirement), everything I learned was from the readings. Participation takes up a considerable chunk of your grade, and she is unfairly tough in grading it, as there is almost no opportunities to speak because she rambles. Trust me, take this class with a diff prof.
Professor Paretskaya is a nice person but this class is awful. You will be expected to read 50 pages a class and take a quiz on the material. Participation is nearly impossible to get 100% on and greatly impacts your grade. You need to talk in every discussion in order to get the points but there is very little time to get a word in. Good luck :/
This professor is VERY lecture heavy, meaning she drones on for an entire power lecture and does not give students much of a chance to talk.. but grades harshly on participation. There is almost nothing put in the grade book, so be prepared to spend all your time on the essays given only a week in advance! Would not recommend to a friend.. or enemy
Prof Paretskaya is very sweet and seems to genuinely like the subject she teaches. She loves to hear the students' opinions, but doesn't require it. The class is pretty easy, but the essay tests are pretty harshly graded in comparison to the other quizzes she assigns. It can be VERY hard to pay attention, but it usually pays off during the tests.
lecture was in a tiny room with one window. she only talks and barely uses the chalkboard. Participation matters a ton in this lecture but she never stops talking so its a little difficult to participate.
