Course Description

Provides an in-depth exploration of addictions, encompassing substance use disorders (SUDs) and behavioral addictions from gaming, gambling, food, exercise, and work-related compulsions. Examines how capitalism, colonialism, and globalization disproportionately exposed minoritized and other vulnerable populations to addictions while shaping social responses to addiction, such as prohibitionism and other prevention and treatment strategies. Analyze cultural understandings and responses to addiction through the use of Artificial Intelligence.
