What you’ll be able to do

  • Unpack and critically examine a complex prompt and the expectations it creates.

  • Recognize genres of academic text and legal text and develop strategies for reading them efficiently.

  • Develop critical responses to academic sources.

  • Recognize and avoid plagiarism through judicious note-taking, appropriate paraphrasing and summarizing, and conscientious citation.

  • Develop realistic expectations and strategies for handling the timing of the stages in a long writing assignment.

  • Organize and develop a sustained, logical argument in a manner consistent with American academic expectations.
