Summary

What you’ll be able to do

  • Critically analyze environmental and sustainability thought in Wisconsin, the U.S., and internationally, with a focus on how and why ecological awareness has evolved over time in different cultural contexts.

  • Identify and summarize educational policies and practices relating to climate and sustainability through lenses of social equity and inclusion, as well as how they can be made age- and developmentally-appropriate for various grade cohorts.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of local community nonprofits, social service organizations, and schools that are working to develop "social sustainability" in school-based and community programs.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of campus-based volunteer and registered student organizations that are seeking to advance various forms of sustainability on and off campus at the University of Wisconsin.

  • Demonstrate knowledge about how these kinds of school, after-school and out-of-school programs, along with nature and outdoor education, can foster greater awareness of environmental concepts and sustainability practices.
