Causal Models in Household and Consumer Research
Recorded 2026-10-14Causal Models in Household and Consumer Research
Research course applying modern econometric techniques to empirical consumer research with an emphasis on causal inference.
Summary
Recent recorded grades — Spring 2025: 3.33 GPA, 83.3% A/AB (n=6 letter grades); Spring 2026: 3.82 GPA, 100.0% A/AB (n=14 letter grades).
What you’ll be able to do
Recognize and describe common methodological approaches used for causal inference in empirical consumer research.
Identify the underlying identification assumptions behind common methodological approaches and describe the key considerations for assessing the validity of these assumptions.
Critically evaluate and discuss the methodological approaches in recent empirical consumer research, including being able to identify potential limitations to being able to draw causal inferences from the findings.
Interpret and synthize findings from empirical consumer research, enabling them to communicate research outcomes effectively and with the appropriate caveats to both academic and non-academic audiences.
Apply modern econometric techniques to analyze observational data in the context of consumer research, with a particular focus on causal inference.
