Recent recorded grades — Spring 2022: 4.00 GPA, 100.0% A/AB (n=9 letter grades); Spring 2023: 4.00 GPA, 100.0% A/AB (n=10 letter grades); Spring 2025: 4.00 GPA, 100.0% A/AB (n=11 letter grades).

What you’ll be able to do

  • Apply quantitative data analysis techniques to real-world social science datasets, including the construction of variables, use of sampling weights, handling of missing data, and interpretation of multivariate statistical results.

  • Design and execute an independent research project, including formulating an applied social research question, developing an analysis plan, conducting statistical analysis, and producing a well-organized final report.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in research communication, including creating data visualizations (tables and figures), writing coherent and well-supported research papers, and delivering effective oral presentations of findings.

  • Critically evaluate peer and published research, providing constructive feedback through peer reviews and engaging with sociological literature to inform analysis and interpretation.

  • Demonstrate ethical research practices, including proper data handling, understanding and application of Institutional Review Board (IRB) principles, and maintaining academic integrity throughout the research process.

  • Strengthen project management skills, such as managing time effectively, meeting cumulative deadlines, integrating feedback, and balancing multiple interrelated tasks over the course of a semester-long project.

  • Connect sociological research skills to career development, including preparing professional resumes, writing cover letters, conducting informational interviews, and exploring opportunities in graduate school or research-oriented employment.

About this rating

Raw average: 5.00/5 from 10 quality ratings. The adjusted rating blends this with the UW review average (3.66/5), weighted as 20 additional ratings. Smaller samples stay closer to that average. Each captured review is counted once in the prior; this does not correct who chooses to leave a review.
