Trost is a great professor. He talks very quickly sometimes and it's hard to keep up but everything is posted on canvas. He also records and livestreams his lectures. All notes and dates for everything are posted and he also reminds people in class. He is a fun professor to have and would definitely recommend.

Trost is organized and clear about what he expects of you. He is knowledgeable and great at explaining things. He seems like a cool guy, too. 20% of the grade was 2 online quizzes, in which the lowest of the 2 was completely dropped, which was nice. Only downside is that lectures felt long at times. All in all though, Trost is a great professor.

Great professor. Interesting lectures with funny examples. Attendance is not required but going to at least half of the lectures will get you extra credit. The homework is very easy and helps you understand the concepts along with the discussion practice problems. As long as you put in decent effort and study well for tests you can do well.

Steve Trost was a great Econ 101 professor. Tests were kind of hard but discussion attendance and homework assignments helped to bring grade up.

Lectures are not mandatory but if you go to over half, you get 1% of extra credit (tracked through iclickers). Lectures are long and he tries to keep them interesting, but I found myself distracted easily.

Steve is a great guy. Funny, and explains concepts really well. You're graded on a lot of things, which can really help your grade (Also offers extra credit if you attend half the lectures!). That being said, I did find his lectures incredibly boring at times. It's important stuff, but man is it hard to pay attention. Good guy, would take again.

Trost was a good professor. Class is very straight forward. To study just do the practice quizzes he provides and you'll be just fine. I would recommend reading the book but it can get very long and repetitive.

Good professor, coursework is not super hard, but the final was 30% of the grade and much harder than anticipated. The questions were phrased very weirdly and felt like gotchas. Funny prof and straightforward. He's very quick, so take diligent notes. Discussion... just pray you have a good TA, my section was insufferable, I can't lie.

I really liked having him as a professor. His expectations for exams and quizzes are very straightforward. There are many practice quizzes. Do those until you do well and you should be set to do well on both the exams and the quizzes. There are two quizzes. They are open-note with a proctoring system. Your worst quiz gets dropped.

I would just recommend to study (even for online quizzes). One gets dropped but don't put yourself in a bad situation. Trost is great and has a clear syllabus, just goes kinda fast so look at notes before/after lecture. My friends and I also thoroughly enjoyed the many beer/cigarette examples throughout lecture.

Professor Trost is very knowledgeable in his field and cares deeply about the topics at hand. I would highly recommend making sure you pay close attention during lecture as if you have not taken an economics course before it can become confusing very fast. There is not much homework at all but I would highly recommend doing extra practice.

Trost is good, hes just teaching a more challenging class. Material is diffuicult but he is very engaging and relates the material to real life scenarios

He's a very direct and honest professor. The lectures are super organized and prepare you well. He also is definitely not monotone which makes it a lot more fun to go to lectures and uses fun examples to describe concepts.

Trost is a very easy professor. You have two online exams and one in person midterm and the final. Plenty of resources to do well in the class! Lectures are recorded but are very long and heavy in content. Highly recommend taking 101 w/ Trost!!

Great professor! I truly don't think I would've gotten an A with any other professor. His lectures were very clear, though they were very wordy. I recommend downloading notes and annotating them to absorb more info. USE the practice tests!!! They were so helpful, and there were multiple exact questions from them on the exams.

Genuinely a great professor and a great class.

Steve was great. He consistently taught through an objective lens—which is challenging for a class like Economics of Race. You'll definitely leave this class with more than you came in with, as there are plenty of opportunities to deepen your understanding through papers and group projects. If you attend lectures, you'll do well on the exams.

His lectures consists of him reading off of the powerpoint and cracking jokes, all of his powerpoints are posted on canvas so it is easy to stay on track if you miss a course or are trying to work ahead.

Steve was funny and made even depressing topics interesting. He was cognizant of his own biases and encouraged us to challenge both our and his preconceptions. The course was adapted to current events; he allowed us to steer it in directions of our interest. I would have preferred a final exam OR final paper vs both; easy assignments otherwise.

Lectures did not prepare for the application of material on the tests. This class has me reconsidering my major. Don't let my GPA's sacrifice be in vain; avoid at all costs.

Took 101 as first-ever econ class and Trost was perfect professor to teach it. Made concepts easier to understand and provided plenty examples in lecture to help explain things. 3ish easy hws per chapter. 3 quizzes (2 online) and drops ur lowest, plus a final. Posts lectures, PowerPoints, and practice tests online which helps a lot for studying.

Steve is a great lecturer and very organized. His slides are super helpful and the material in general is tested in a very fair way. He's super cool and pretty funny sometimes.

Took his class for social science requirement. Was a very fun class loved his banter during lecture. Class was easy if you complete the online homework there is no problem. Easy A would take it again if I could.

If you need to take 101 100% take it with Trost. I've heard horror stories about other professors and he was a great teacher. Lectures were not mandatory and I skipped a lot of them and still did well. He makes content super understandable and tests were very fair.

Econ 101 with Trost was pretty much a breeze. He drops your lowest quiz out of the three total you take throughout the semester. Quizzes were easy if you studied in advance. Lectures weren't required, but you could get extra credit if you did show up (extremely boring lecture though). Would take again.

Lectures feel very long, but are also very clear. Almost no reading is required and only need 50% attendance. One bad part is that tests are most of your grade and there is a cumulative final.

Steve Trost is an amazing professor. He records all lectures, and he livestreams my lecture (not sure abt rest). Watch the livestream and do attendance through that. He gives 1% EC if u attend half lectures. He gives lots of busy work that helps you understand material and helps boost grade. 3 quizzes, 2 online one midterm in person and one final.

This course is incredibly content heavy. Steve does a good job providing real life examples to difficult econ topics. Incredibly boring class, but all the lectures are recorded online so you can just stay home and watch the lectures. Also, one out of three of your exams are dropped which I have heard not all econ professors will do.

Professor Trost is a pretty good teacher, and formats his class so you can get an A if you put the effort in. However, I think that he's a pretty monotonous lecturer, and could do a better job highlighting what's actually important out of the vast amounts of content he teaches. Way too much text on slides, moves through them way too fast.

Steve was a good professor. Clear lectures with live streams and recordings accessible outside of class. The midterm and final are worth 50% of final grade (20% for one midterm and 30% for final). All exams were multiple choice and there were a lot of practice material available

Professor Trost is the best ECON101 professor you will find. He is organized and clear in his lectures. There are weekly homework assignments that can be long, but they are fairly easy, and great grade-boosters. Exams are straightforward.

Great professor. Lectures and the textbook overlap 95% of the time and Achieve homework can be annoying. Three midterms (2 online, one in person) and one final with the lowest midterm grade being dropped. The class is not curved and he is fairly strict on that. The tests, even the online ones, can be difficult. You really need to read carefully.

I had Prof. Trost for Econ 102 (Macroeconomics) and he was great. The lectures can be a bit boring and attendance is not mandatory because he uploads the lectures to Canvas. TA's take attendance for discussion. There are 3 mid-terms and a final. 2 of the mid-terms are online. This class is pretty easy so long as you don't blow it off until finals.

Steve is a great professor, and I wish I had the chance to tell him this to his face. I was always interested in his lectures and he explained things in a way that were easy to understand and relate to everyday life. I would highly recommend taking him!

This is Spring 2023 and I've now had Professor Trost two semesters in a row for Econ 101 and 102. He is such an amazing professor. The classes are well-balanced between homework, section attendance, and tests. His curriculum is well-structured and expectations are always clear.

Great lecturer, always lively, thorough and clear. Lectures are recorded and attendance for them is not mandatory however weekly discussions are. Discussions review material learned for that week. There are 3 midterms and a final, all which are online open note and the lowest of 3 midterms is dropped. Wording of exams was a bit hard but manageable.

Trost is a lecturer and it absolutely shows when you go to his class (or watch the recording). He is a great speaker and does a great job making stuff stick with examples. Exams are a little hard but online and he drops one of three midterms. Minimal homework, maybe like 2 hours tops per week.

Enthusiastic, clear, patient, and thorough, Prof. Trost does a seamless job of lecturing Microeconomics. You'll thrive if you are a visual learner because he loves to draw graphs. Show up, make sure you take thorough notes, do everything on Achieve, and you'll have no problem in ECON 101.

Never really had to go to lectures or even read, just go to first few lectures if you are unfamiliar with econ basics and discussion sheets are gone over at end of class anyway. Tests are online and only homework are pretty easy online modules for completion. Always very lively in lecture, especially for an 8 am start.

Steve makes the class pretty straightforward and seems to be like one of the best Econ professors compared to the other ones. Exams are difficult and you have to get used to how to take his exams. Exams are open note (30 questions 1 hour on canvas) but he words the questions difficultly so they are still pretty hard.

Exactly what you look for in a professor. My favorite professor so far. He is clear on what you will be tested on, provides practice exams, all open note, and drops an exam. He doesn't make things harder than they have to be. I didn't even know we were supposed to be reading a textbook and easily got an A. If you need to take the class, take Trost!

Professor used Achieve as homework, although they are annoying and tedious they are pretty much a grade saver. It is in your best interest to do it. However, as for the content, I personally thought it was difficult to grasp. Professors has a clear outline of the course and what teach but sometimes glosses over concepts fast.

He's great! Tests are a little tricky but other than that he is the best professor I've had at UW. He is always available outside of class and his TA's know what they're doing. If you are going to take Econ 101, do it with Trost!

Steve's lecture was the easiest Econ lecture available. Perhaps it was because he is new here, but really, I believe that Steve's teaching & testing methodology differs from others. He relies on students learning fundamental concepts and does not test math unless absolutely necessary. The textbook he uses interactive & concise. All tests open book.

Great guy. The exams can get pretty tricky, as the questions are more application based than just pure knowledge of a concept. Other than that, this course with Prof Trost was awesome. Super engaging lectures and a very caring guy overall. Definitely recommend.

If you are taking ECON101, you should for sure take with Trost. There is a lot of reading to do before classes, but other than that, the homework doesn't take long. Lectures can get a little boring, but overall not too bad. The content of the course isn't too difficult to understand, but the exams can get tricky. Go to lecture and you'll be fine.

Trost is a good guy- he makes an effort to be accessible outside of class, even when his personal life gets busy. The class itself isn't hard if you show up to lecture and do the homework. Plus, who doesn't love an online exam?

Steve does a good job explaining concepts in lecture. If you go to lecture and pay attention you will get a good grade. We also only had three test (including a final) but the lowest test was dropped. I would recommend Steve and his class.
