Prof. Goldsmith is incredibly smart and intelligent, and you can tell he knows this too. Most of the time his lectures and his vocabulary are unnecessarily complex to the point of me wondering what is he trying to prove. The material is not conveyed clearly and I rely heavily on the textbook to understand concepts.

He might understand quantum mechanics, but he can't teach it! He assumed we somehow understand everything and uses advanced PChem language in class. Also, his hand is on top of his writing 70% of the time, and he explains the topics extremely fast. Homework is irrelevant to both lecture notes and textbook. Exam had stuff we never learned. Bad prof.

Goldsmith is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He's super smart and passionate about chem, which is awesome. The exams are the hardest that I've ever taken, but he gives plenty of opportunities to build up your grade outside of the exams (weekly quizzes, problem sets, tophat, etc). Definitely a hard class but worth it!

Professor Goldsmith was overall good, with a few small flaws. His lectures are clear and informative, though sometimes his homework sets aren't really taught/addressed in class. Overall, you end up very prepared for lecture.

Lectures are always super interesting and engaging he truly cares that students understand the material. Very accessible during office hours and also very approachable.

Prof Goldsmith is an amazing teacher that genuinely cares a lot about his students. The class is challenging but he sets you up for success. This was the course that convinced me to change my major to Chemistry. My biggest piece of advice is to go to the group homework sessions; they did wonders for my understanding of the material.

Hands down, he is a fantastic teacher. I probably made a mistake and took 109H the class, since I'm a finance major and I already had all my required science credits done. Even though I was not that interested in chemistry itself, Prof Goldsmith and the fantastic TAs made the class bearable. If you try hard enough you will succeed.

Fantastic teacher that gave students tons of oppurtunites for extra credit. Was the hardest class I have ever taken but he worked hard to make class understandable. Highly recommend taking his course if possible.

I started in 109H my freshman year and ended up dropping to 103. Goldsmith was a great professor and very passionate about chemistry. His exams were difficult, but I learned a lot. I learned so much from him in the month I was in his class. However, if you have a limited chemistry or physics background, do not push yourself to take his class.

Fantastic lecturer with a contagious enthusiasm for chemistry. Exams are very difficult, but mostly fair. Problem sets are a bit rough and often time consuming, but their many inevitable Eureka moments make them very rewarding and even enjoyable. Science and engineering majors would miss a huge opportunity in not taking this class.

In terms of quantum mechanics, mathematics is mandatory to understand. Without mathematical explanation, nothing can be proved or understood. In his lecture, he talks a lot without mathematical explanation to analyze phenomena. Also, his exam consists of only writing without math. He does not understand quantum mechanics at all.

HE was fun and knew his stuff

Professor Goldsmith was an amazing lecturer and teacher. Great lectures with tons of examples, funny, and clearly explained. Goldsmith made chemistry accessible and interesting. His TAs were also amazing and were extremely helpful, and his exams, while tough, were fair. Overall, the class was great, and given a chance to take it again I would.

Prof. Goldsmith is very enthusiastic about the material he teaches, and gives good, clear lectures. His test and homework questions are very difficult, making the overall class difficult, but the numerous office hours he provides help tremendously.

Randy was an amazing professor and really took the extra effort to ensure that I understood the material. Make sure to attend office hours as they were very helpful. Take advantage of all he offers in the course and make friends with those around you, he really encourages group based learning.

Randy was an incredible professor. He is very passionate about his subject. The material is a lot of physical chemistry, which isn't my strong suit, and the material is difficult. There is a generous curve on his exams.

He has a lot of enthusiasm that gets you excited too. Good lectures. Go to lecture, office hours and tutorials. Tests are hard but are VERY similar to the problem sets and practice exams (he makes up his own problems from questions and variations off previous exams/PS). He wants to get to know you so don't be shy and ask questions!

Randall Goldsmith is an amazing professor. He accessible during office hours and very willing to talk other times. He answers questions and is clearly very passionate about the course. There is a lot of work and the material is hard but if you go to lecture/office hours if unsure about the material, it should not be difficult to do well.

Randy is a super cool guy and he's really passionate about chemistry and the class. However he teaches very quickly and is sometimes hard to follow so make sure you go to his or TA's office hours if your struggling.

He is very unpredictable.

Randall is really smart and enthusiastic about the subject. However, he teaches the class at a very fast pace. I really learned a lot in the class but i felt that I needed to put in way more work in this class than any other that semester in order to do well in it. Take this if you really want to go in-depth into physical chemistry.

The tests in this class were unnecessarily difficult. Also, he played clear favorites, and if you weren't one of them, it sometimes felt like he was patronizing. He expects a lot out of his students, which isn't a bad thing. 109H is much harder than normal Chem 109 and doesn't prepare you that well for O Chem.

Hardest class I've ever taken but the curve is generous. Great grades on exams aren't expected and theres a lot of other opportunities to bring your overall grade up. The text book was confusing and hard to follow but it's not necessary to read if you go to lecture. Prof. Goldsmith is really good at answering questions and helping students.

This was the hardest class I've ever taken, and I would've dropped to 103 if Professor Goldsmith hadn't been the professor. He's always willing to meet with students to help them, and he really cares that his students learn the material. Go to office hours and the tutorial sessions. He does some really cool demos too - so don't miss lecture!

Professor Goldsmith is very enthusiastic in lectures and periodically tests students' understanding of concepts with iClicker questions. The course material isn't easy, but it is definitely possible to excel in exams with adequate mastery of what was taught in lectures. Take this course if you want to learn more PChem than the typical 109 course.

Interesting class, but it was really really hard. I would definitely recommend regular 109 if you can, unless you like physics based chemistry, and a lot of it. In order to do well on the homework, you have to go to office hours. Tests are hard, but he is able to give 50% of the class As or Bs. Online Lecture notes are useless, bad handwriting.

The tests are ridiculously tough but there is a generous curve. Randy is a great teacher but he gets really excited when teaching some topics and he forgets that we aren't as knowledgeable as he is in that topic so you get lost very easily. Also he puts his lecture notes online but his handwriting is illegible so make sure to go to class.

Not too difficult. Worth taking over any other general chemistry course

The course is difficult because it assumes that you can recall things learned from prior classes and it goes further into the physics and concepts behind chemistry. Professor Goldsmith is very energetic in his lectures and shows awesome demos. I strongly recommend going to his office hours! He barely taught by the book and its pdf was online.

This was Randy's second year teaching this course, but I think he did a great job. His lectures were stimulating, whether or not a cool demo was done. Tests could be quite hard, but there is a nice curve. At 5 credits, this class dominated my semester, but it was also my favorite. Be ready to work hard. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Incredibly enthusiastic, engaging, and fun. The textbook and lectures cover the same material, but Randalls lectures are way more interesting and understandable. Exams and homework can be sort of challenging but definitely not impossible he wants students to succeed. Office hours are the best. Randalls the coolest.

I really like his enthusiasm for the subject, but the tests were really hard. Pray for the curve. The whole honors class is curved at the end where an A is somewhere in the 80%s and above, but it depends on the semester. You have to know the material. Attendance isn't mandatory at lecture, but I would still go to learn the material.

Goldsmith is a good professor. He is very enthusiastic in lectures and his enthusiasm rubs off on you. He gives lots of opportunities for you to get help on problem sets and studying for tests. Tests are very hard, but there is a pretty forgiving curve.

Great Professor. Inspirational actually. His interest in P-Chem has driven me to peruse this track. The course assumes some previous knowledge as Honors would. This is about 1/6th of what we did in AP and the rest was mostly application. Exams were difficult but curved nicely. Office hours help like no other. Try it out to grow a love of chemistry

Randall is enthusiastic and knowledgeable but the course was poorly organized. Very difficult material but try hard and it kinda pays off.

Hard class, but awesome curve. Go to his office hours!!

Randy is a great teacher, has a lot of passion for his course, and frankly, the material is super interesting. Most people thought it was a hard class (exams, etc), but the class grade curves are very lenient. Amazing class!

He is a very good teacher. He is very energetic and express enthusiasm in his teaching. He also constantly remind people to ask anything if they don't understand and his office hour is also very helpful.

I'll be honest; This class was NOT what I expected. Prof. Goldsmith does his best to teach this course, but the nature of this course is flat out difficult, and this is college so no mercy. (Really, this course should be a 2 semester sequence). Expect to work hard in this course. The current TA's are great, and they realize it's an honors course.

Definitely super smart guy doing super cool research right now. It is challenging to take his course if you got no background of chemistry. But if you are extremely interested in physics chemistry, it is yours!!!

Prof. Goldsmith is an energetic lecturer. However, the class if poorly organized. The labs and problem sets are always ahead lectures, which means huge amount of work by yourself. Also, his quantum mechanics lecture does not make much sense. If you are not a quantum mechanics person, you are not gonna understand it despite all your effort.

Professor is interesting to listen to and is very passionate about chemistry. The class is a hard class though! To succeed, you must have taken a bunch of chem in high school. Go to the tutorials with the TAs!!!

Hey is a nice guy that loves making corny chemistry jokes. He will take time to help you only if you help yourself outside of class by reading ad thinking about the problems.

Professor Goldsmith is very energetic and enthusiastic in teaching and explaining the deeper aspects of chemistry. He is always willing to help the students as best as he can. However, the course is very hard, especially the exams. I like Professor Goldsmith but not the contents of the course (Quantum Mechanics...what in the world).

Prof Goldsmith is energetic during class and help after class. He is so nice a person. But this class is more about physics than chemistry, which makes me quite frustrated. The test is also not easy. Anyway, Goldsmith is a good choice.

I'm done some stupid stuff in my life like shaving my area and directing barnyard films but this was the best choice of my life! Take it! It's so much fun!
