He's a nice guy, no personality issues. He's passionate about physics, planes specifically, which is great for him, and nobody else. His slides are word dense and aren't that relevant to what showed up on the midterm at all. In fact, his unit, according to the other instructors was one of the "easier" ones. It was the lowest midterm average for us.

Hanson is definitely a nice guy, and I appreciate that he tries to make class fun with cool demonstrations. But, at the end of the day we all just want A's. He doesn't teach you anything you need to know for exams, or work through any relevant example calculations in lecture. Everything I learned was either self-taught or taught by youtube.

Went to three lectures before I stopped going and just sat in the hall getting my attendance points. I learned more about his hobbies than the actual material. If not for my TA, I would have failed the class (Love you, Sean). The average score on the exam when he was teaching was wayyy lower than everyone expected.

HORRIBLE PROFESSOR! Didn't know what he was talking about during any of his lectures because his stuttering was to hard to understand, acted as if this was his first time ever doing physics (got example problems wrong when doing them). No one in the MANDATORY NON-RECORDED lectures understood his attempts at teaching during his entire unit. HORRIBLE

This class is the most difficult class I have taken so far at UW and Kael made it even worse. He made me anxious with his frazzled energy and I learned nothing during his lectures. He went on tangents that didn't relate to course material and made things even more confusing.

Ridiculously scatter-brained and unorganized. Mutters to himself and stumbles over his words so you have no idea what he's trying to say. I definitely knows his stuff but is just can't convey it at a level you can understand. Get out of there as fast as you can!!!!!!!

He's so hard to follow during lecture. He talks at 2x speed, and yet somehow says nothing! He is extremely ineffective at teaching the material. Other Physics professors were fine, but I got nothing out of Kael's lectures. Utilize Discussion and the Help Desk well, because lectures will not be useful. Run!!!

This class is hard enough as is, and unfortunately he is the worst professor of the course. Prepare to learn all the content on your own as he spends half the lecture mumbling and stuttering. He also spends too much time talking about niche topics when main material isn't addressed.

God awful. Nice guy, but spends MANDATORY lectures talking about his random passions and neglects the actual class content completely. Goes about explaining problems in the most complicated way possible like anyone in an introductory class knows what's going on. Teaches like he's never seen the lecture. Prepare to learn on your own & bomb the exams

Truly not a good lecturer. He never makes it to the important slides in class and instead discusses the most irrelevant information instead of going over what we need to know for the exam. My TA had to "relecture" the first part of discussion because he would never get to it in lecture, and I think I learned more in there than I ever did in lecture

I'm not sure he ever completed a single thought in class. His lecture is one continuous run on sentence. He acts like he has never seen the material before, and spends more time talking about his hobbies than the lecture topic. Hopefully he won't be allowed to teach the course anymore after his train wreck of a unit.

This dude is the worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. Good luck trying to pass the unit he teaches in Physics 103. He is seemingly never prepared for class and is so bad at explaining things that even the TAs are confused on his lectures. You can definitely still do well, but I would recommend just not going to his lectures.

This dude blows. Nice guy and everything but cannot teach for his life. His lectures consist on rambling about aspects irrelevant to the course, and doesn't get a clear point across. Every single person I talked to thinks he isn't a good teacher, and if you get him be prepared to teach yourself EVERYTHING!!!

It genuinely seems like he just never prepares for class and just is going on random tangents all the time. It feels like lecture is so useless its like he doesn't know how to dumb down the physics and explain it to people who are freshly taking it. He seems like a nice guy, but I've never had a worse professor in my life. -this is for 103 btw

104 is difficult but doable, no thanks to Kael. He is discombobulated, wastes time talking about obscure and inapplicable scenarios, and never finishes a thought. Nothing he says makes sense, none of the problems he presents are adequately explained and rarely finished. Don't expect to learn anything from him- you will be teaching yourself.

He sucks. Lectures do nothing and he just talks about nothing for 50 minutes and you have no idea what's going to be on the exam. You have to learn everything outside of class or in discussion, you could sit there and do nothing and you'd still learn more than when he teaches.

I did not learn a thing when this man was teaching. He is very disorganized and obviously does not do much planning before lecture begins.

I feel like Hanson is just frazzled every time we have lecture. Like he doesn't seem like an evil person but like I genuinely have never understood a single word that came out of his mouth during lecture. Like I was extra confused on every topic he specifically taught. Good luck if Prof. Hanson is your only option as a physics professor.

THIS IS THE WORST CLASS I HAVE EVER TAKEN! EXAMS ARE TERRIBLE AND THE LECTURES DO NOT REFLECT WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW FOR THE EXAM! I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE STRESSED ABOUT AN ENTRY LEVEL COURSE! THIS A TERRIBLE CLASS!

Physics104 is one of the worst classes I've ever taken. Practice problems are so much easier than any of the questions on the exams. I leave more confused from Kael's lectures than when I got there. He goes off on many tangents and often gets problems wrong. Should probably be teaching to more advanced physics students who already know the basics.

Kael is too much of an expert in his field that he simply cannot break it down for someone encountering it for the first time. He goes off on random tangents during class, when we really just want to know the basics of physics. He also tends to solve problems and get them wrong. Although I'm sure he's a very nice man, he's not a great professor.

His lectures are VERY boring and he has scattered thinking

So bad at lecturing I would rather have a child teach it to me. He seems to get so confused by what he is saying that he stops multiples times to restart explanations.

i have never had a professor more disorganized & all over the place. physics is hard enough i come out of lecture even more confused than i did coming into it. he contradicts himself all the time and doesn't explain things fully. i have never been more confused in a class

he just seems so frazzled and stressed all the time it makes ME stressed

While Prof. Hanson is very knowledgable about physics, he struggles to put his thoughts into words. Lectures are very confusing and disorganized.

he is a terrible public speaker and cannot organize his thoughts while teaching. lecture becomes unbearable and nothing makes sense.

Had Kael for 103/104 - very disorganized in lecture & often struggles w/ teaching students concepts (almost as if he himself doesn't understand them). Lectures are hard to follow & I often left feeling more confused than when I got there. Classroom is also flipped learning & prelecture content is horribly subpar, & lecture does not help at all.

Prof is very accessible outside of class, responds to emails quickly, and makes absolutely sure you leave office hours with a better understanding of the material. The teaching style is conversational and he tries to help you approach the same problem in different ways. Best physics prof I've had so far.

Very disorganized. Could benefit from practicing what he will teach before he comes to lecture.

yapper

He's fantastic, I learned so much in this class. He's really friendly and helpful outside of class, responds to emails right away, and helpfully answers questions in class too. While I did find it necessary to ask lots of questions in class to get a solid explanation, in the end he always got everything across well. His exams were fair too.

The professor is disorganized in lecture and he demonstrates vs teaches sometimes. But he is personable and extremely accessible outside of class. Sometimes he is not very clear on what he is trying to teach because he teaches straight out of examples rather than on theory. His lectures on digital logic are very cool and interesting.
