The class is graded on attendance + a few in-class essays, but Dr. Dharwadker prepares you very well and they are open-note.

Dr. Dharwadker's lectures are very dull, and while she clearly cares about the subjects, she is not very responsive to opinions that differ from her own. I did not feel like I was in an environment where I could contribute my thoughts, yet she seems annoyed when people don't participate. The reading selection was good though and exams were easy.

She is flexible and kind as long as you participate in class. Her lectures are a bit long and can be boring, but she is passionate about her work and knowledgeable.

Thankfully, this professor knows that this class is primarily taken by people who don't care. Even still, she is not great at encouraging participation as she primarily wants to teach her interpretation of the text. Your full semester grade is based on four in-class writings plus attendance which is very stressful.

I feel like the people who rated her low didn't actually engage with her lessons. I was not confident about my writing assignments and still got As on them! I love that all the writing assignments are in class, it is way less stressful. She is very smart and had really interesting insight into the topics. I also loved the selection of literature.

Prof Dharwadker is clearly very passionate about what she teaches, to the point she will dismiss or scoff at literary interpretations that differ from her own; this discourages anyone from speaking in class, and then she will scold her students for not discussing. I witnessed her laugh at a student's genuine interpretation of a poem during class.

Feel like I could have done better in the course if I had more regular feedback from her tbh. After putting in so much effort, it feels the grading in harsh & what she wanted from me unclear. It was like the goalposts kept shifting throughout the semester. Ugh!

Very boring -- lots of reading and lecture heavy.

A very strange experience overall. Classes are mostly sleepy lectures. Lucky to get out with a decent grade despite hard to understand feedback.

Discussions were interesting and assignments were easy. Having a lot of interest in the subject, I was enthusiastic to take the course at first. She says so many inappropriate things in class regularly, honestly I think she's an ethics or HR case waiting to happen. Wouldn't recommend the class to a friend unless they didn't have an option.

Professor Dharwadker is an accommodating professor and she's very passionate about the material. Her class was a little boring but it wasn't too difficult.

It's mostly her talking, and frankly, I am not sure how this prof is allowed to teach her courses like this. Like there has to be some quality control right? In a university like this right? It seems she comes in with no preparation at all and just goes off on whatever topic, often in tangents. Not going to major in theater after this....

She's really casual and doesn't have any respect for any of the students. While I am okay doing all the long readings and showing up prepared for class, it seems that we are treated like children no matter what. This was a turnoff and kind of put me off because I was really interested in the subject.

Wish her feedback was given earlier in the semester, rather than after the semester was over.

For the love of god do not take Modern Literature, it is boring af and doesn't discuss modern lit at all. She spends the entire semester talking about colonialism, India, and the history of cities. Easy enough class but every day really sucked, her lectures just felt never ending.

Aparna is a very smart woman who has a serious passion for the material she teaches. If you're interested in the topic of her course, you will like it. Global Theatre is the seminar I took, and I spaced out a lot during her lectures. Claims it's a "discussion-based" class, but a lot of it is just listening to her speak. Interesting plays though.

Pretty sweet teach. Pretty easy course as long as you read the plays and listen in lecture a little bit.

Dr. Dharwadker is one of the best professors I've ever had (and this is my 3rd school (arguably 5th))! She is very knowledgable, well-spoken, fair at grading, impartial to students, available for help and great at leading class discussions. She tailors the class to the students, is open and encourages all. I recommend any of her classes to anyone.

She is an amazing professor. The class I took with her happened to have a low enrollment of only 8 or 9 girls so the class took on a bit of a 'book club' feel. I found every class engaging and Dr. D did a wonderful job of hearing out and understanding everyone's views and taking them into consideration. Grading is tough but absolutely fair.

The class is not too difficult, but it's discussion heavy. Dr. Dharwadker is a great professor and the subject matter is interesting. This class really had an impact on the way I view theatre.

I really enjoyed the class. The teacher was very knowledgable, has studied theater for a long time and has seen many plays. I thought she was very clear about what she wanted, what we should study and how. The class was very easy in my opinion. READ/WRITE do well

Dr. Dharwadker is one of the most knowledgeable professors I've encountered on campus. Still, she is very open to student input and encouraged us to make our own discoveries. Her standards are clear & she is obviously passionate about the subject matter. I was not expecting to like this course, but it is now my favorite theatre lit course I've had

Dr. Dharwadker is one of the best professors I've had at UW-Madison! She knows her field and makes you interested in it, too. Her assignments are both reasonable and engaging. Plus, she grades like a champ!

I was not expecting to enjoy this class as much as I did. Contemporary World Thtr was not only challenging but The professor inspired me to work hard and do well. She structured her class with a complete relevant history of the region from which the play we were reading came from. Her knowledge of the texts is impressive and her passion inspiring.

Made it through having not purchased any course materials. Interesting subject matter. She is NOT hard to understand. Straight forward class. Projects are fun. High standards (but fair and transparant) for papers. Good supplement for Theatre major; non-traditional (non-western) literature is interesting.

While she knows a lot, lecture is pretty boring b/c she uses no powerpoint or visuals. Inconsistent grading, but not too hard to get an A. Heavy accent can be difficult to understand.

I had no idea what I was getting myself into with this class, but the Prof. was amazing. Dr. Dharwadker responded to my questions in a timely manner, was available outside of class, and made lectures interesting and interactive. I am going to take the next class she teaches

I would figure out a way to take a course with ANY other professor. Her exams take much longer than the time that she allows for them and she expects that you have perfect grammar on the blue book. If you can't write incredibly fast and with perfect grammar your grade is going to suffer.

Worst professor I have had at Madison yet. Unreal expectations of her students and lectures are incredibly boring.

I had a completely different experience with Dr. Dharwadker--I found her well-prepared, knowledgeable, and also quite friendly and helpful. A good lecturer and a fair grader.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Complete and total inability to connect with the students; expects us to know more than we do coming in, and wastes time explaining things we DO know. Exams & papers were inconsistent and unhelpfully graded.
