Best prof ever

shes a good professor who cares a lot about her students. the exams however can be extremely difficult and its unclear what you need to know, as lecture alone is not enough to understand exam content. i'd def recommend doing problem sets ahead of time. exams are curved significantly so i'd say an a isnt impossible. also love her humor

Deglopper balances her in-depth explanations of chemistry with useful techniques and examples of reactions. Her lectures are concise and structured. Exams however, were extremely difficult, with averages in the 50s and 60s due to an extremely specific rubric. However, the class is graded on a curve, so an A is very much attainable if you work hard.

I would die for Kimberly. Had her for both 343 and 345 and her courses are hard but she really puts effort in to teach help you understand. She is always on her piazza grind, answers emails quickly, always helpful in office hours. You can tell she really enjoys what she's teaching and I love her awkward jokes. Ochem was hard but she made it better.

Focuses on why things happen, not just memorization, which is great. That said, if you're going to try to memorize things anyway instead of understanding, you probably will not have a good time. Her exams are very fair, and you will learn a TON from her if you're willing to put in the work!

Prof. DeGlopper is a fun educator who clearly explains the material. This is a tough course, but she makes it bearable. She is very available outside of class and offers incredibly helpful grade reports after each quiz/test to measure where you are at in the course. Very few graded works, so be prepared to study lots, which she is super helpful in

Knows the material, helpful, does her best to make sure everyone has the tools necessary to do the work. If people are complaining it's probably because the material is difficult (welcome to Ochem).

Her lectures are clear and move at a good pace. She explains material very well. She is very kind and accessible outside of class. The course expectations were reasonable. If you put in the time to learn and understand the content and get help, you can get a decent grade.

Prof Deglopper is incredibly caring and knowledgeable. After taking ochem 1 with a prof who didn't truly aid me in my understanding of the material, she has entirely reversed how I think and feel about organic chemistry. Content is always difficult, but exams are fair, and she is reachable outside of class. Would definitely recommend!

Chem 345 is very difficult but she is a very good professor and really puts in the time. She also has funny, awkward jokes.

Very good lectures, focused on understanding the material over pure memorization. You need to actually learn the content, not just memorize mechanisms. The grading is interesting, due to the very large standard deviations on the exams there is quite a push to the mean. You have to be really good to get an A and preform quite poorly to get a C or D.

Professor Deglopper is a remarkably good o-chem teacher, her lectures and lecture style is very informative and not memorization based. She also cares a lot about the students, which in my opinion is rare for professors here, I highly advise you to take this class, it's actually quite enjoyable.

You can tell she enjoys the subject and that helps get students more engaged. Because your grade is on so few things, quizzes and exams only, it is up to the student to utilize the very many different resources provided to keep up. That works well for me, but I can see it being an issue for people who can't manage time well.

She's nice and fair. There are a lot of tools to help with practice. There's no surprises on the tests that haven't been talked about. Just pay attention, ask questions, and do the practice. She knows the subject and is happy to help. I only wish the time for tests was longer because I couldn't finish it.

She's a girl boss, but she is a hard professor. Be aware to spend a lot of outside time reteaching yourself concepts from Ochem 1. Do ALL the practice quizzes and exams multiple times; it's the best way to grasp the concept and learn it. Piazza is a huge tool, so USE IT. She's really good about answering questions on there. Also, use office hours!

I hope you love teaching yourself organic chemistry. Material covered in lecture is like 2% of what they expect you to know and Discussions will take an hour to get through a single problem and leave you hanging. I guess they expect you to get actually taught in office hours.

Her lectures don't really cover what she tests on, and it's not in the book or OChem 1. The lectures are really just her walking through practice problems that don't entirely cover what she expects you to know. Just be prepared to teach yourself.

Dr. DeGlopper is an amazing professor for Chem 343! The class is difficult, but she explains things really well and at a good pace (she doesn't talk too fast, and she writes out everything on the slides so it's easy to follow along if you're taking notes). Going to lecture or watching the recording is super helpful because she's a great teacher!

She is probably the best professor I've ever had. Genuinely such a nice person who always tried her best to help you understand the material. If you have the opportunity to take her section definitely do it because she's the best!

Dr Deglopper is such a nice professor. I would choose to have her again so fast. Ochem is hard obviously but she breaks it down very well and I grades fairly. I would say reading the textbook is not necessary, but going to lecture and maybe even rewarching it is. Also always go to discussion. There are always test like questions gone over.

Very good at lecturing and takes her time to go through each reaction and draw out the process. The material itself can be tough but really not that bad if you know how to study - I found it much easier than both semesters of gen chem. She's also very clear about what you need to know for exams and what is just extra information.

She is equipped to teach 343, but not 345. Highlights irrelevant things outside the scope of 345, very hard exams (avg~40%) & lectures move very fast. Tried to blame students for the low avgs- The students taking OChem2 are not slackers, they want to go to med school, etc. - No accountability for poor teaching. Do all of the problem sets you can!

I highly recommend Professor Deglopper. Her lectures went at a good pace and were easy to understand. She throws in a lot of funny little personal stories that help students connect with her even in a large lecture based class. I wish I could take more chemistry classes with Professor Deglopper

All the Chem 345 reviews are tweaking cause that is nothing close to what me and my peers experienced in 343. Very clear lectures and extremely helpful in office hours, and only having exams being graded was great because you could booze on the weekends and not worry about 1000 pre lab/lec assignments.

Graded by only a few quizzes and exams. She is quite kind and caring professor who is willing to help, but her grading is incredibly strict, and her exams are unnecessarily difficult. I believe that if the average is as low as it was, then you are no longer appropriately testing students' knowledge. Study lots, she will throw curveballs

I did well in this course but most everyone did not do great. (45% exam avgs) The exams are insanely difficult but problem sets and intensive reviewing can help. Kimberly is sweet and cares but struggles to hammer down course material if u get what I mean

She struggles to teach the scope of 345. In lecture, you're fighting to keep up with copying down what she's writing on slides. Gives unnecessary info about reactions or just doesn't complete them. Takes no accountability for low test scores, blames students for not studying properly (averages for exams were ~40%). Wouldn't recommend for 345

I learned so much from Kimberly. She and Esselman worked so well together and answered all of my questions. If you have the chance to take her as a professor, please do. Ochem is hard but I went to her office hours and learned so much. The way the chem department works is weird, so I wasn't able to have her as my actual professor, but I love her

Dr. Deglopper was very clear in her lectures. They were certainly a little monotone and boring at times, but she did a good time of emphasizing the important concepts. Exams were very difficult, they all had averages in the 50s but the class is curved. She is very good at answering questions and very responsive on piazza and in emails.

Dr. Deglopper is a very succinct lecturer who understands what is important for students to know and the most effective ways to teach concepts, making the complexities of organic chemistry manageable. In office hours, she interprets student questions and explains them fully when necessary, ensures sure that key exam concepts are emphasized.

she is very clear and organized in lecture!!!!!!!!

Kimberly was awesome (better than Bowman in my opinion). She cares about students and is very organized and provides lecture slides to follow during class. She answers questions well and responds to emails quickly. I recommend!

Kimberly was a very good lecturer, writes out live notes on lecture slides, makes it clear what we need to know. Also answers questions well.

Professor DeGlopper gives good lectures and is helpful in office hours. O Chem is not an easy class, but she makes expectations clear and tells you what you need to do to succeed(do the problem sets!). The practice tests and quizzes are very similar to the actual tests and quizzes. Would recommend.

Kimberly is an amazing professor. She writes out her notes live during lectures so they are very easy to follow, she clearly cares about her students and is very willing to take and answer questions during lecture. She has high expectations but they are made very clear. There are also practice exams that are very reflective of the actual exams.
