Probably my favorite professor on campus. Very hard class but I truly enjoyed his lectures and his were possibly the only lectures I had this semester where I was able to follow along well and learn from.
Definitely much better than Herdon, but don't really like his style of teaching. He spends too much time deriving equations and going over theory than doing example problems. But he does set up some cool experiments.
Josh does a great job of lecturing, the other professor in the class was very poor but Josh did a great job explaining and teaching the material in his half of the class.
The best physics prof at UW. Straight to the point, lots of examples, doesn't make the content overly hard for no reason. Give Josh full reign over 201 and 202. I don't know why the physics dept here insists on splitting lectures. Josh is the goat and I learned the material he taught 10x better than the other guy.
Is the complete opposite of the other professor that taught the class who was horrible. Josh's lectures are very engaging and he knows how to keep his students focused in class. Exams can be very very difficult and hard to study for since no previous exams or study guides are given to students for practice. Very hard class but a very good lecturer.
Josh is honestly the best lecturer I have had at this university. He clearly makes the things you need to know known, and doesn't waste time talking about things you don't need to know. The expectations are very clear, and he is always available. He answers questions well and is not afraid to help you and re-explain things.
give this man the ability to teach physics courses on his own & a raise on top of it. the way a massive wave of people came back once he started lecturing again, following the driest physics professor's lectures that he co-taught w/, goes to show how fantastic he is. explains examples thoroughly with no-nonsense random derivations. josh is the goat
It's a hard class, but Josh makes it enjoyable. I love his outfits so much.
Great professor. I highly recommend if you have the choice. The exams for this class are all free response and they are pretty generous with partial credit. Josh thoroughly goes over each concept very well and is happy to answer any questions.
Josh is an exceptional teacher. Lectures are extremely engaging, including many demonstrations and examples. He is helpful in office hours, and you can tell he cares about his students' learning. He is very passionate about the subjects he teaches and that makes me as a student more interested in the course too!
Amazing professor. Lectures were very clear and engaging. Josh is also extremely fair and helpful. You can tell he's passionate about his classes and the subject.
Josh gave the best physics lectures I've ever attended. Made physics 202 interesting and helped me with comprehension.
Josh is the only reason Physics 201 and 202 are bearable. His lectures are outstanding, and it is obvious he has a passion for the content. 201 is a very hard class and there really isn't a way around that, but he makes it bearable. Chances are you will have him paired with another professor that is really bad.
Josh was a great professor. Although he may go slow during lectures, he goes in depth and makes sure that the material is clear to students. He does a lot of practice problems which are also very helpful.
Weber was the highlight of 201. He made lectures entertaining, and I enjoyed coming to class because of that. Weber explains everything thoroughly and apparently he's known physics since the 1850s. He's funny, and a great teacher. Thanks for being great, Josh!
Josh is a great lecturer. Tries to make things simple to understand instead of complicated which is refreshing. The intro physics classes are test heavy, but he writes fair tests in my opinion. Overall great professor.
I would say Josh was a great professor from a lecture standpoint. I always looked forward to going to class even though the content was difficult. That being said, from a grading standpoint, he wasn't the best. He gave absolutely no curve even though our test averages were mid to low 60s and allowed for over 25% of the class to get a C. Not great.
I have always struggled hard with physics, but Josh helped me understand. Instead of reading off of slides, Josh shows how the problems are done by hand, which helped so much. He is truly passionate about what he teaches which makes lectures interesting. I always looked forward to him teaching.
Josh is enormously patient and kind to all. He is humble and speaks slowly and concisely. The tests are straight forward but intro physics covers a wide variety of material that can be quite dry. The homework took several hours each week. I was stuck many times even though I felt good with the material.
Many people enjoy Dr. Weber's lectures, as he goes into more detail explaining concepts than Shiu if you have them together. However, his lectures are often difficult to follow, as he rarely gives examples to provide context. He also doesn't cover all the material in class, so you have to decipher the notes he posts or read the textbook.
Dr. Weber is a great professor because he explains the complex concepts very well and steadily and shows that the students mastery of the content matters to him. The midterms were relatively straightforward wrt material from lectures but finals combined many concepts so understanding topics throughout the course and solving problems is suggested.
Professor Weber is great. Despite that physics is VERY challenging, it was nice to have him go over things more clearly. Ask him questions and he does care about his students! Do weekly hw's, discussion sets on time & attend consultation hours to seek more support! Labs are with instruments from the 90's & time consuming to wait & checked by TA's
The material is inherently difficult but Professor Weber explains it in a way that helped me understand and learn, even though I was never really good at physics in the past. Questions on the final and midterms were similar to what you'd see in discussion. Lectures have cool demos. Overall, Professor Weber is super chill and caring to students.
The material itself is difficult but in terms of being a lecturer he is phenomenal. Really good at explaining complex topics in simple terms. A super friendly and genuinely caring professor who has such a clear passion for the subject. Work load is very manageable but physics is inherently difficult
I think Josh is a nice guy, but I have always struggled in physics at Madison and I don't think he's a good professor unless you're really good at physics. If you're not great at physics, you'll easily fall behind and be confused in his class. On top of that, the discussion questions are hard to solve given only the information you got from class
Extremely solid professor, took over summer, exams are hard but still able to obtain an okay grade. Josh is one of the few professors here that actually cares and is a good professor. Recommend taking phys202 with him.
This class was extremely hard, but Dr. Weber helped me formulate a better study strategy when I met with him during his office hours. I was ready to drop the class but came away from our conversation feeling much better.
Josh Weber teaches physics in an engaging manner that is understandable and also funny. I had him for the summer session for Physics 202, so my experience might be different, but he so caring for his students. For example, our final was today. He got us all donuts :) 110/100 professor
Josh made sure that students clearly understood concepts and he was accessible outside of class. Tests were VERY similar to practice questions, although the timing was a little short. Josh's lectures were easy to follow, and he was able to keep students' attention. In a difficult class, Josh made it a lot better.
In comparison to his counterpart, Josh was the saving grace of the already difficult Physics 201. I pleasantly enjoyed taking this class under Josh. He was a very compassionate professor and genuinely cared about the success of everyone in the class. His lectures were very clear and concise and helped fill gaps that the other professor left. 10/10
The best. He truly cares for his students and wants them to succeed. His lectures explain concepts well and he answers questions thoroughly. Timing for tests was difficult, but the questions were fair and similar to problems from class, homework, and discussion. Grading was more than generous at the end (A: 88, AB: 82, B: 67, BC: 62, C: 57, D: 46).
Josh co-taught physics 201 with another professor, Jeffery Schmidt. Josh did his best to pick up the pieces from Jeffery's atrocious lectures, and made concepts much more understandable. He was funny and made lectures enjoyable with entertaining and instructional demonstrations. He was also accessible outside of class.
He made an otherwise poorly managed and challenging class much more enjoyable. Josh made lectures fun and easy to understand and always was open to questions and responding to students' misunderstandings. While I didn't like this class overall, Josh's lectures made it a lot better.
This professor does really well for his job. He is accessible outside class, always willing to help, and genuinely cares about his students. He makes sure to talk simply in his lectures so everyone can understand what is happening.
