Had Tony back in 2017 for ecology. Great class, great man. Always wore the same belt buckle since the day he was married. Quizzes were relatively challenging, but not impossible. Interesting subject matter.

Professor Ives has been one of the best professors I've had at UW-Madison and he genuinely cares about ecology. His lectures are interesting and opens lectures with organism of the day, which is fun and engaging

Tony is a really passionate and understanding professor. He wants to give his students the best experiences possible, and there are plenty of opportunities of extra credit. I felt like test questions were often imbalanced in terms of question difficulty, and though he makes a point to write good questions, there's always room for improvement. 7/10

I think overall, Ives is a good professor. He's knowledgeable and cares about students. However, the lectures are not very concept-dense, and rely more on examples. The course is almost entirely graded on exams, which is really stupid, and the exams questions are seemingly intentionally vague, near the point of unnecessary trick questions.

Tony is really passionate about the subject which makes him great to listen to. Each quiz is out of 20 points (except the final is out of 60), so even a couple wrong will bring your grade down. DO ALL THE EXTRA CREDIT!! It's enough to bring your grade up over 10 percentage points

Tony Ives is as good as professors get, his lectures are super interesting and he outlines things you need to know for tests super specifically so if you don't get an A in this class it's your fault. He cares way more about you learning than about making the class hard so I learned a ton and got good grades. He offers lots of EC and is a real gem.

Tony is a knowledgeable professor with a passionate interest in all topics in the ecology field. His lectures are interesting, and they are posted online as well. The exams are kinda hard, but nothing too ridiculous. Also a lot of extra credit opportunities, so take advantage of that. Overall, solid professor.

I liked this professor a lot!! He is very passionate and it's very possible to do well in this class. Lectures are posted online and there is a lot of opportunity for extra credit. I wish he taught more undergraduate classes. Material was straightforward and interesting. This class influenced me to declare environmental studies as my major :)

Professor Ives does a good job of keeping lectures interesting. I especially loved the organism of the day. He has all his lectures online. Grades are based on the tests which are 20 ? and you go over answers right after the test and a 60 ? final. Plus there is more than a whole test worth of extra credit points so take advantage and do it early.

He's a very good professor. His lectures are interesting and always super engaging. I didn't mind the organisms of the day. I learned a lot from this class. Quizzes were really tough, not going to lie. There was options for EC.

He is an excellent professor and very knowledgable and passionate about ecology. He posts all lectures online so you don't have to go, but in class discussions are helpful. My biggest complaint is that the quizzes are set up to stump you and it's very difficult to get an A on them, so DO THE EXTRA CREDIT to bump up your grade.

Probably one of the best professors at UW. Enthusiastic about the subject and really wants people to learn. Grade is made up of 6 tests, 20 questions each except for the last one which is 60 questions, all multiple choice. There's ample extra credit too. He even uploads all the lectures so you only have to show up for tests.

Online lectures but spends the first 20 minutes talking about organism of the day and there's only one test question about one organism. Haven't learned anything in this class. The exams are poorly worded and intended to trip you up. Ridiculous testing because it is meant to trick you. Studying doesn't help. I love ecology and this class kills that

Easy class, good prof. Sometimes lectures would be very dry, but they get more interesting as the semester went on

I wouldn't recommend this class to Bio (or similar) majors because it is way too easy and repetitive of other core courses. I learned about basic cell structure for the SIXTH time in college. Everything is dumbed down until he gets to the ecology part. BUT, lecture recordings are posted ONLINE and there is no homework. 6 exams, tricky.

Professor Ives is a great teacher. He makes class very interesting and enjoyable. There isn't a textbook so you have to go to lectures but they are really interesting so you'll want to go. There are 5 small tests throughout the course that are tricky multiple choice but he provides a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Fun easy bio course

Tony is one of the most interesting professors I've had at Wisco. There isn't a textbook, so going to lecture is a must, but they're so interesting you'll want to go. Quizzes are given throughout the semester and they're tricky multiple choice questions, but he compensates for it with tons of extra credit. If you need a bio credit, take this class!

Love this guy. He cares a lot about his students. Very genuine and down to earth. But be careful, when he says that this class tends to drive engineering majors nuts, he mean it. He doesn't purposely try to do that though. The class in such a way that if you cant establish a crispy biological rationale at all times, it's going to be rough.

Anthony Ives is the best professor I've had in 3 years at UW. He is the coolest. His life experiences are amazing, and he really cares about making sure his students are learning. Listening in class and reading the books are the best ways to prepare for the tests, but the class and the books are so interesting that it shouldn't be a problem.

Tony Ragnar Ives is the bomb.com. He's literally the cutest thing ever. His lectures are generally interesting however he does jump around a lot making it difficult to stay involved in the topics. Overall a great introductory course, don't let the readings and lectures slip away though, very important for the tests!!!!!

Prof. Ives is awesome. He is incredibly intellegent, and genuinely cares about his class. He makes every lecture interesting, and will answer any question at any time. Smaller lectures, little homework, easy grading. There is no textbook, so just make sure you go to lecture. This is a great class to take for a bio credit, or just for fun.

Tony is the man. I might actually switch my major to ecology just so I can hang out with him. He is so cool and the class was unbelievably easy with lots of opportunities for extra credit if need be. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this class. And there's no homework so that's a plus.

Prof Ives is one of my favorite professors. Funny guy and keeps lectures interesting and tests are fair. Optional discussion which I never attended. However, need to attend lecture to get notes because no text book relating lecture material. Lots of extra credit which makes easy to get an A. Take for bio science credit

This professor makes this class great. I have learned so much in this class, while enjoying it. If you need a fun and easy biology credit try to take this class. You won't regret it.

I loved this class! Interesting, fun material and not too serious. Great intro class that got me more interested in Ecology.

Lectures are interesting and full of hilarious fun facts about animal copulation. He is the nicest man you will ever meet, and his grading is extremely fair. This was the most pleasant class I have had at UW yet.

Really nice, intelligent guy that cares for his students! It's not that the material he presented was hard (or that the way he taught it was bad!), but I felt that it was very hard to prepare for his tests due to lack of textbook and him not really emphasizing particular points in class. Lots of extra credit opportunities though!

Tony is a really nice guy who clearly cares deeply about how his students perform. Not exactly the easiest professor but he is most definitely VERY fair with his grading. He provides enough EC to boost your letter grade up by multiple letters and even applies a curve to further it. I learned a lot, as you take tests instead of just 3 exams. TAKE!

This class was very interesting, and didn't require any previous knowledge of botany. The professor really cares about the material and the students doing well. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities and the tests are all multiple choice. Attend class and you will do really well. Good way to fulfill science req.

A great guy, obvious that he really cares about his students. Sometimes gets a little confusing in class but he does try very hard to keep things clear and simple. Definitely be prepared for the exams! They can be tricky.

Excellent professor and a great class. Lots of fun and interesting. Not very much work, tons of extra credit, and generally pretty easy. Not great tests though-little point in studying, they're pretty random and not overly related to the materials.

Tony is a great professor! He's really interested in what he teached and loves answering questions and helping students. This class can be challenging, but its really interesting and Tony provides lots of support for his students.

One of the BEST professors I have ever had. EXTREMELY knowledgeable and a huge nerd, which is a very good thing. Knows what he is talking about and is very approachable and helpful outside of class. Definitely recommend taking any class with him!!

Very knowledgeable and interesting, he really puts in the effort to help students understand the material. He's also very approachable and friendly!

Very very very interesting class. Seems easy, but it's not. There is a lot of potential extra credit as long as you put in the work. There is a nice curve as well, but exams are multiple choice and can have trick questions. Do not take studying for granted because there are not a lot of points and you can find your grade slipping easily.

Great professor. Makes the course material very interesting. He can answer almost any question you can think of, and if he doesn't know he'll usually get you the answer within a week or two. Exams are a little hard, but he has a very generous curve to make up for it

Organism of the day rocks! Must got to lecture to do well exams but he makes lectures fun. Course content is very easy, especially if you've have any past bio experience.

Who doesn't love a redheaded british-canadian with a great accent, birkenstocks, and wool socks? Especially one who lets students submit test questions and then gives you extra credit if he uses them. EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE THIS CLASS, THIS MAN IS AMAZING!!!

Don't miss any lectures because there is no textbook and you might not hear the information again. Tries to make things interesting by telling stories and showing pictures of his travels. He insists on hand-writing notes on the overhead projector, which could be hard to follow sometimes.

This guy is great. The best part of the day is organism of the day. He has great stories, the reading is good, and the tests are easy. You can not ask for more from your prof.

I'm in the middle of taking his class, and I think he's among the best professors in terms of organization, clarity, and helpfulness. He doesn't leave the class hanging high and dry and on their own. He simplifies complex ideas gives great study advice, both in general and for his exams.

Really funny and interesting guy. He has good, straightforward lectures and always gives sample questions in class and then talks through them. He uses an overhead, not powerpoint, and has bad handwriting. The tests questions are harder than expected.
