Very easy class. Weekly readings are easy, and Walter is very accommodating for any student needs. I cannot recommend him enough if you have to fill some miscellaneous credits. He is passionate about his work, and wants to share it with others.

Professor Stern is one of the best professors I've ever had. His passion for the subject matter came across in every lecture and discussion and made me excited to go to class every day. Readings were supplemental every time and the final project had lots of creative freedom.

The BEST professor I've ever met at UW-Madison. Even though his office hour is full, he will still take time off from his busy schedule to meet with you if you send him an email. He is so nice and PPT used in class is super clear. He will provide specific and inspirational feedback on your paper. Just choose him, and you will not regret it!!!!!!

Great professor, finds tons of great resources for reading, engaging topics and easy to follow in lecture, a good idea to read as much of the secondary sources as possible but easy to get away with skipping them here and there, lecture isn't required but has pop reflections which are released in class, do reading responses early, great class

One of the best profs I've had at UW, really cares about his students' learning and success and the material itself. Lectures and readings are interesting and discussions are engaging, try to get into his discussion section if you can! Not too much work outside of class, and the work felt like it enhanced learning, not just busywork.

My thoughts are different than most others on here: this class was a cake walk. Yes, there were tons of readings, but I got away with flying colors without reading a single one. The papers were graded pretty hard, but I used class time to write them which means I did almost nothing outside of the class. Prof Stern was a very kind person. Easy A !

Professor Stern is a very passionate well-versed professor who truly cares about his students. This class was very reading/essay heavy: however, professor Stern and the TA's are more than willing to help students with their work. The lectures were amazing, and one of the only classes in which I didn't sit and watch the clock. I recommend!!!

Professor Stern's lectures are interesting, well-organized, and relevant. Lots of reading assignments, but he often suggested which ones were most important or cut down the readings for some weeks. No tests/quizzes--most of your grade comes from a midterm and final paper. As an education major, really enjoyed this course!

This is a writing intensive/reading intensive course. If you struggle in those areas, especially writing analytical, historical papers, this class is not for you. However, I really really enjoyed Professor Stern. Lectures were so interesting and he is a great guy in terms of helping out students and providing solid feedback. You can tell he cares.

He is a great lecturer and genuinely cares about the students. Lots of reading, but not too much writing or other work.

I'm not even an Ed Pol major or anything, but Professor Stern was great. His lectures are so interesting and I never ever got tired. Seriously! I usually start to nod a little, but never in this class. The readings are super intense and long and the papers have honestly helped me become a better writer.

Professor Stern was the best professor I've had at UW. His classes are interesting and inspiring and he pushes you to work as hard as you can. There are a lot of readings (a book a week usually) with weekly discussion posts and only one final research paper. If I have the chance to take any more classes with Prof Stern, I would in a heartbeat.

Amazing course!! 3 papers small papers, a bigger paper, and a final. His lectures were inspiring. They weren't mandatory, however notes aren't posted online so it's best if you attend lectures as often as possible. My TA Erin was incredible and gave great feedback. This wasn't required for my major but I still highly recommend this course to anyone
