I took his online 367 class. This was honestly better than any other online class I've taken. It was easy to know what to do & when. His expectations on assignments were clear, his lectures were wonderfully concise & the work load was incredibly fair. The material was hard but interesting, and he was more than willing to offer help whenever needed.
I took his online 367 class. He posts tons of lecture videos that you are expected to watch and then somehow 20-30% of the questions on the midterm and final aren't covered anywhere. The only way to ask questions is through the discussion board where he is not clear. No extra credit available at all and you're just a number to him. get ready
Material is not terribly hard but you might have to do a lot of the learning on your own. Troy can make you feel dumb if you ask a question. The TA will probably be the best option if you have questions.
Let me preface this by saying that I am not a STEM major, so I found this class to be difficult. Prof. Runge provides a ton of lecture videos and practice calculations to make sure you KNOW the material. However, some of the quiz/exam questions are not necessarily covered (or covered very briefly) so you really have to know your stuff to do well.
A lot of material between presented, between lectures and textbook reading. Exams and assignments clearly presented, but a lot of studying needed to do well on exams. Ongoing systems modeling assignment is a BEAST. Plan on spending a lot of time on each part of this assignment to do well. Leaned a LOT, but definitely makes you work for it.
Tests are extremely difficult and usually seem to be outside the scope of the material covered. Grading guidelines for the final project are nonexistent, and even by following the example given, my friends and I all received extremely low grades, with no explanation. I would not recommend Troy or this class to anyone.
Great professor, but you'll need to spend quite a bit of time outlining lecture notes in conjunction with assigned reading. Expects you to learn and understand the concepts, and test/homework material can be difficult if enough time isn't spent on preparation.
Runge was an extremely good professor. He makes the grading expectations very clear (not a curved class). There are hw help sessions each week, so getting high grades on hw is pretty easy. He tries to keep the content as interesting as possible and understands it can sometimes be dry. Tests are very fair and based off lecture/practice problems.
Great professor! Great class! The homework is hard but worthwhile for the tests. Some take home tests were offered. Lecture content is occasionally boring but he knows it and tries to keep the class awake.
Runge is a model that all professors should shoot for. He knows how to make lectures meaningful and make a class worth it's students time. BSE undergrads are privileged to have to pass through his teachings.
Great Professor!! Fun and interesting lecturer, even when he says the lectures will be boring. He gives many additional resources to help understand material. He is also always available via text, email, or additional office hours. Exams are fair and represent the goals of the class material. 10/10.
How to get an A: Work with friends on the weekly quizzes. You get two tries so there's no excuse to get less than a 90% on any of them. Find a partner to do the paired project with. Super easy. Take notes on lectures. His notes (which you're allowed to use on the exam) don't cover all of the material. Watch the weekly lecture and take notes.
The best ever! SO GOOD! Made me passionate about life again, literally made me who I am today.
You have the option to take this class online. Lectures are posted online the next day. There's required reading. He only takes about 15-20% of his questions from the book. All homework and exams are done on Learn@UW. You get 2 chances to submit the homework. Exams are tough but are very similar to the homework questions. There is 1 group project.
While Professor Runge means well his lectures are disorganized and unhelpful. He doesn't give any examples in class and the required textbook does more harm than good. However, he does give out plenty of extra credit and his exams are typically easier than the homework. He does want you to do well but his lecture outline could use some improvement
The class can be pretty disorganized at times, but if you are confused about anything, Runge is super approachable and willing to help. He even sets up and shows up to homework help sessions. Exams are easy (2 are take-home) and if you have any knowledge of basic thermo, the class is pretty simple.
Prof. Runge is a really down to earth guy. His lectures can be disorganized, and he likes to do lots of example problems. Exams are fair and quite easy if you do the practice. Homework is pretty easy as well, but requires the use of EES. Class covers very basic content, and if you've ever had thermo, it should be a breeze.
